"ohh..." he says...

(Obligatory delay for moment of saddness)

Then starts rifling the body...
You don't find much, it looks like the Arks took all the good stuff.

Dutch

"Well, we aint gunna get nowhere standin' here." Dutch said, "So once Gus is finished here, let's move on south to get what we came for." With that Dutch edged closer to the southern end of the clearing.

The path slopes down somewhat, it looks like it's going down into a bit of a valley.

Trees that seem to be missing most of their bark up to about 4 feet in height? ...

Also checks for claw marks, smaller dangerous insects, land-mines, pit traps, dead falls, quicksand...anything that is construde as dangerous.

Not that it matters much the most dangerous thing around here is in front.

He continues to follow Dutch.

The doctor stares at the body for a few more moments.

"Can't save 'em all..."

He mutters quietly before moving on.

You walk down the path for about 400 meters, the tree growth is quite thick, and you can see that the bark off the tall trees has been ripped and scarred in many places all at the four feet or less level.  The path leads down between a couple of steep wooded hills and then opens up into a valley. At the center of the valley is a large glade with a 300 meter diameter.  There is only grass in the glade except at the center.  At the center there appears to be a fairly large mass of broken equipment.  There is a haze in the air, not quite a fog, but close. It's still very warm and extremely humid.  In the distance ahead of you, you see a plume of whitish smoke, you estimate it is about a kilometer and a half away from where you are currently.  You are standing at the entrance to the clearing but haven't moved into it yet.  Phil is feeling a little hungry again but even more thirsty.

He fights off his urge to rush in and investigate....

Instead he looks for obvious tracks leading into the clearing (but does not enter).. probably not seeing anything he grabs a rock (or something equally weighty.. and flings it into the clearing aiming for a point just before the equipment pile. He watches carefully for any reaction/movement on the ground.

(OOC: Is there foliage directly above the pile/clearing?..)

"Bait? or stuff that something didn't want to eat?" he says suspiciously to the others.

Toulaan scans (visually) the perimeter of the glade looking for anything that might look suspicious or remotely out of place.

No immediate reaction, and no foliage directly above the pile or anywhere in the clearing except near the edges.  The pile is not steaming, from here you can make out a couple of swords, maybe a gun or two, what looks like a backpack and a bunch of other bits of broken equipment that you can't identify from this far back, but there don't seem to be any "organic" bits.
Taking a look around the perimeter of the glade, you don't spot anything overly suspicious, although you don't recognize a lot of the plant life.  There don't seem to be any animals around, but you haven't spotted much other than a couple of squirrels and birds and of course the giant dragonfly's up to this point so that's not anything new.  It does seem a little quieter though, the chirping of the birds seems fainter and there isn't a background buzz of insects.

He furrows his copius brows. He looks to see if there is anything that might be edible in the pile. Doing so without getting any closer.

"It feels like a trap... though it could just be whatever made these.." he says indicating the scratch marks on the trees "...just collecting shiny stuff....",

He looks again to see if there are any indications of something with claws leaving a trail.

He takes out his laser.

No sign of anything with claws leaving a trail, but you do think you heard a faint rustling coming from somewhere within the trees.
You can also see that the path you are on continues out of the clearing on the other side.

Dutch

Dutch points his weapon to the tree tops and scouts around.
[OOC] Is he heading into the clearing or just looking around from the edge?

Cautiously follows the intrepid walking wall of meat that is Dutch..

Thinks..."its a trap...its a trap... its gonna be a trap. Why hasn't he realised it?, why is going into the clearing?..Why am I following???"
