ASoIaF: House Banefort & Banefort NPCs
« on: April 26, 2017, 11:26:21 AM »
Liege Lord: Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West

Located west of the Riverlands, the Westerlands a hilly region is noted for its great wealth and power.  Having numerous ports and countless mines, it wields a great deal of power and influence in the Seven Kingdoms.  House Lannister, who governs these lands, is easily one of the greatest houses in Westeros and is strengthened all the more with its ties to the Iron Throne in the capital of King's Landing.

House Banefort:
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Banefort
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/House_Banefort
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Morgon_Banefort
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Hooded_King

Coat of Arms: A black hooded man, on a grey field, within a fiery tressure
(Cendrée, a hooded man sable within a tressure rayonné along the outer edge gules).

Motto: "DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR" (or another one if someone suggests it and everyone likes it)

King Morgon (the founder of this house) and his thralls were defeated in a twenty-years-long war with King Loreon I of House Lannister.  Morgon was said to have been a powerful necromancer who cursed his vanquishers as he died, claiming he would return from the grave. In response, Loreon Lannister had Morgon's body cut into pieces and fed to his lions. Two years later the lions broke free within Casterly Rock, slaying three of Loreon's sons.

Hooded King was a title used by House Banefort during the Age of Heroes. The last Hooded King was Morgon Banefort, who was defeated by Loreon I Lannister, the first King of the Rock.

There are rumors that one of the Blackfyre Targaryens slept with one of your house's heirs and that the madness of that tainted bloodline still flows in your living heir's veins.  The founding member of the house was said to use the power of Necromancy which gives others pause when dealing with members of your family.  King Baratheon has a severe hatred for all things Targaryen, and it may be for this reason that he took interest in having the Lord imprisoned after his murderous crimes.

House Banefort has several silver mines.

More information will be put here with all the NPCs that serve the house.

LORD:  Quenten Banefort is the name of the Lord of the house that went nuts and sacrificed most of his children and high ranking officials.  I'll have to work on populating and filling the vacancies of the other positions in the house.  The characters can have these positions too of course.

Quenten is currently in the dungeon of The Stone Hedge and held there by Jonos Bracken of House Bracken.  He was sent by the King Robert Baratheon with Tully men to capture him.  He is currently waiting the King's judgment, but many think that the King has forgotten about him.

House History

Since the research I did said yours is an OLD house, I won't roll for the First Founding and just go with it being "Ancient / Age of Heroes."

Historical Events:

Age of Legends, 9 Events!

1) Instead of rolling for the first historical event, I'll also use the canon source and put in "Defeat" because House Lannister beat them in a 20 year war.  -5 Defense, -1 Influence, -6 Lands, -1 Population, -5 Power, -6 Wealth (ouch).

2) Rolled a 9, Treachery!  -2 Influence, -3 Law, and +2 Power.

3) Rolled a 9 again, Treachery! -3 Influence, -5 Law, and + 5 Power.

Members of the house's navy and army were discovered to be participating in the many raiding parties of the Iron Men.  It just so happens that your house's lands NEVER get raided by the Iron Men.

4) Rolled a 11, Infrastructure You THE PLAYERS get to add +6 to one House Stat, and +3 to another House Stat.

5) Rolled a 12, Ascent +3 Influence, +6 Lands, +5 Power, +2 Wealth

6) Rolled a 13, Favor +6 Influence, +6 Lands, +6 Law, +5 Power

7) Rolled a 6... MADNESS!!! (6-2D6 for all of these).  -2 Defense, -2 Influence, -5 Lands, -5 Law, -7 Population (the Lord must have killed off his own people), +3 Power, +2 Wealth.

8) Rolled a 16 Glory!!! +4 Defense, +4 Influence, +1 Law, +3 Power

9) Rolled a 10 Decline -6 Influence, -3 Lands, -2 Power
(The Lord of the House drowns many of his offspring to The Drowned God).

Definitions:

Ascent - Ad advantageous marriage, a great deed for a liege lord, or heroism in a decisive battle.  Your house participated in some historical event and that improved their fortunes.

Decline - The head of your house just went nuts and drowned a bunch of high ranking servants and family members.

Defeat - The Lannisters defeated your House very early on, and since then you have been their Bannermen.

Favor - Your family gained the favor of the King, their Liege Lord, the Faith, or from some other powerful body or organization.  Perhaps you got this by naming a member of the family to the King's Guard many generations ago, or you had a Grand Maester in the family, or a Great Septon.  The King might have granted you special exceptions to certain laws, etc.

Glory - gained through military victory, personal achievement, or by a great act of heroism.  This focuses on one person in the family's past.  Often the House improves when the Liege Lord rewards them for these deeds.

Infrastructure - During a period of peace and prosperity you improved your lands and reputation.  The Lannisters most likely aided you during this time.

Madness - Inbreeding, fell secrets, disease, or mental defects can produce derangement and madness.  A figure in the past suffered from some form of insanity producing unpredictable results.  I like that the lore of the house mentions necromancy, so perhaps others claim that your house suffered this as a generational curse from those ancient fell deeds and rites.

Treachery - Either you suffered the results of treachery or you were involved in committing a treasonous act.  Either way the event stained your family's name.  There were two such events in your House's past.

New Revised House Stats

Defense: 22
Defensible, with at least one fortified town or castle.  Roads and trails are present, and rivers or ports are likely.

Influence: 41
Maximum Lord's Status 5.  A powerful minor house with colorful history.  Examples House Frey, House Florent.

Lands: 21
A modest stretch of land or medium-size island, such as House Frey.

Well I had been thinking huntsman or scout. So if I take the Master of the hunt position?

I only offered to be the hunt obsessed 2nd son if it helps out the house and the game. I saw enough episodes to now that being a family member can have unfortunate effects on your long term health

I just don't want to be deciding for the group what the house is going to do through an NPC.  Between your character Richard and Angel 's with input from the other characters all of those decisions will be of the player's making. That is well and good.  If you don't want to be The 2nd son you don't have to be though.

Go for it. I am sure that I can successfully lead a life of wanton dissolution wasting the house's resources and partying hard
