ASoIaF: Some Historical Details
« on: April 30, 2017, 10:40:15 AM »
I'm going to cherry pick some dates from this site that will have some bearing on the game.  I'm going to emphasize Lannister history (since Tywin Lannister is the Liege Lord of House Banefort).  This is also where I will put in some alternate timeline details that will be different from the books and series.

Two of the biggest "butterfly effect" changes are that King Robert Baratheon survived the boar hunt and that Eddard Stark went to The Wall instead of being decapitated.
http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

  • 259 AL: King Aerys Targaryen's reign begins with great promise. He sweeps aside the old men of his father and grandfather's courts and replaces them with young, vigorous replacements.  Later he slowly descends into madness and is called "The Mad King."
  • 260 AL: Emboldened by his recent military experience in the War of the Ninepenny Kings, young Tywin Lannister puts down the Reyne Rebellion to restore Lannister dominance over the Westerlands, and has any surviving Reynes - man, woman, and child - put to the sword, as an example to any vassal who would dare challenge Casterly Rock again.  In the Reyne Rebellion, young Tywin eradicated House Reyne down to the last child, restoring Lannister dominance over the Westerlands after a generation of weak rule under his father Tytos.  The eradication of House Reyne is the first major step in the return to glory of House Lannister, in which Tywin almost singlehandedly rebuilt the fortunes and strength of his House. Impressed with Tywin's ruthlessness, Aerys II Targaryen appoints him as his new Hand of the King. Tywin continues to ably serve in this position for nearly twenty years, during which the Seven Kingdoms and the Lannisters in particular enjoy peace and prosperity.
  • 262 AL: Tywin Lannister's wife Joanna Lannister gives birth to twins, Cersei and Jaime.
  • 266 AL: Tywin Lannister's wife Joanna dies giving birth to their third and final child, a stunted dwarf named Tyrion.
  • 266 - 270 AL: The winter lasts three years.
  • 279 AL: A great tournament is held by Lord Whent at Harrenhal. King Aerys and Prince Rhaegar attend, as do many lords from across the Seven Kingdoms. Prince Rhaegar wins the tournament, but names Lyanna Stark of Winterfell as the Queen of Love and Beauty rather than his own wife Elia Dorne.  Lord Tywin Lannister is enraged when Aerys names his son Jaime Lannister to the Kingsguard, disinheriting him as Tywin's heir in favor of his ugly, misshapen younger brother Tyrion. Furious, Tywin resigns the Handship and returns to Casterly Rock.
  • 280 AL: Rhaegar Targaryen allegedly kidnaps Lyanna Stark against her will and disappears with her. Lyanna's eldest brother Brandon impulsively rides to King's Landing and demands justice but instead King Aerys has both him and his father Lord Rickard arrested and brutally executed.  Eddard Stark becomes the Lord of Winterfell.
  • 280AL: In response to the king's murder of Rickard and Brandon Stark, the new Lord of Winterfell, Eddard Stark, raises the banners of the North. Robert Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End and betrothed to Lyanna, joins the rebellion, raising the banners of the Stormlands. Lord Jon Arryn of the Vale, a mentor to both Robert and Eddard, does the same.
  • 281AL: Prince Rhaegar leads a royalist army to directly engage the rebels, but is defeated at the climactic Battle of the Trident, in which he is killed in personal combat by Robert himself.
  • With Rhaegar Targaryen dead, lords who had been undecided about which side to join now abandon the Mad King. Lord Tywin's army arrives at King's Landing allegedly to defend the city, but once the gates are opened the Lannisters brutally sack the city. Aerys II is killed by Jaime Lannister, his own Kingsguard, for which Jaime becomes known as "the Kingslayer".
  • Robert Baratheon, due to a blood relationship with House Targaryen, is proclaimed King of the Seven Kingdoms. With Lyanna Stark dead, Robert instead marries Cersei Lannister to shore up the alliance that brought down the Targaryens.
  • 282 AL: Queen Cersei Lannister gives birth to Prince Joffrey Baratheon.
  • 283 AL: Queen Cersei Lannister gives birth to Myrcella Baratheon.
  • 284 AL: Queen Cersei Lannister gives birth to Tommen Baratheon.
  • 289 AL: The Greyjoy Rebellion - Lord Balon Greyjoy leads a rebellion against King Robert's reign, attempting to secede the Iron Islands from the rest of the realm. After several months of furious fighting in the Westerlands and Riverlands, King Robert's forces push the ironborn back to Pyke and storm the castle. Balon capitulates and surrenders.  As a result of this many of the minor Iron Island houses have sons taken away to be raised as Wards in many of the mainland houses.  Asmund Volmark (of Island Harlaw) is House Banefort's ward.
  • 289 AL: Following spring, a long summer officially begins, which will last for another ten years, only ending in 299 AL. It is the longest summer in living memory.
  • 298 AL: King Robert Baratheon is almost killed in a boar hunt, but as a result he can now barely walk.  He begins to gain a large amount of weight and drink even more than he did previously.
  • Eddard Stark (the Hand of the King) learns that the former Hand (The Lord of the Vale/Eyrie Jon At run) was murdered with poison after learning that the Baratheon princes and princesses are all born of incest.  He tells Cersei Lannister to leave, which was his honorable mistake.  He does however send out ravens to all of the major and minor houses with messages about the illegitimacy of Cersei's children and the poisoning of Jon Arryn which weakened the Crown's favor among many minor houses.
  • Eddard Stark is instead drugged and framed for murdering 12 prostitutes at a brothel and then exiled to serve the rest of his life in the Brotherhood of the Night's Watch.  Eddard's daughter's Sansa and Arya are kept as Wards and their lives are often threatened.  The Seven Kingdoms become engulfed in a massive civil war.
  • 298AL: Robb Stark is declared King in the North by his bannermen, seeking vengeance for his father's betrayal and the capture of his sisters.  Eddard tries to persuade his son not to do this because he has heard rumors about the Wildlings amassing beyond the wall and about the return of the White Walkers, but he is ignored.  Robb Stark is joined by the lords of the Riverlands, sworn to his mother's family, House Tully, and attempts to secede from the Iron Throne.
  • Surprising many the southern kingdom of Dorne also declares their independence and begins fighting skirmish battles in the South.  The Tyrells through marriage join forces with the Baratheons and Lannisters.
  • Daenarys Targaryen is rumored to have an army of Dothraki and it is also said that she gave birth to three live dragons.  Many think this is just nonsense.
  • 299 AL: The Conclave of the Order of Maesters, based on reports and observations, officially declares that the ten year long summer has finally ended, and autumn has begun. There are fears that a long summer will be followed by an equally long winter, but instead of stockpiling food, the Seven Kingdoms are gripped by civil war, devastating the countryside.
  • King Robb Stark invades the Westerlands to further bleed the Lannisters and their bannermen.
  • While the Northerners are South fighting battles, the Greyjoys on the Iron Islands once again declare their independence and invade and conquer many places in The North.
  • Tyson Lannister is named Hand of the King, and there are rumors that Cersei and Tywin are truly running the kingdom as King Robert drinks, eats, and visits brothels.
  • There is trouble in The capital city of King 's Landing and other large cities.  A secretive group are committing acts of sabotage and leaving remarks about following "The True Heir."

I want to start the campaign after the dragons are born, due to the fact that the world has some magic in it once again.

So, the North, the Iron Islands, and the South are all in open rebellion. Daenarys Targaryen is across the Narrow Sea raising an army.  Stannis and Renly Baratheon are supporting their brother Robert, and a bunch of terrorists are supporting The True Heir which many think is a Baratheon bastard.
