Kraken World
« on: November 04, 2005, 09:31:24 PM »
I have been told this is almost madness, but I want to create a world book for kraken World.

yes it is a BIG project, and will take time, but it will be worth it.

Initially I will get my ideas down on paper, then I will need help writing it up, and illustrating the book, as to how or if it will work, time will tell.

I don't need any volenteers yet, I am just issuing myself a chanlenge, though I'm not gving myself a deadline ;)

Deadlines are the best thing to deter stalling projects. :D
I have a tendency to start a project and not finish it, although I'm getting better at it....finishing them I mean :P

So Ictus, get writing or I'll have Lady Cat come round and whip you into action! that's unless your into leather and whips

When I say this is a big project I am after somethingthat is bigger and better than ANYTHING that has gone before, but I will settle for beating Cyradon or similar worlds for now.

Once KW is done, then I want several other timelines and world for the Splintered Earth roughing out, then the universe with it's background and creatures, then the outer universe, that which is manipulating the rest of the universe is to be detailed, in no particular order - small project ;)

OK you are right, deadlines need to be worked out.

The cover is done, so that's covered, the main map is roughed out
The ideas are all in place
just needs writing hehe

Yeah, it's finding that little bit of spare time to do the things we want. If only we didn't have to work <sigh> ;)

Yeah, no elves there're gay, Dwarves... well there ok so they could stay, Definatly NO freakin' gnomes, halflings, or kender!!! Although I do like Jim Hensons concept of Gelflings and pod people. Gryxs' might make a difference in HARP, but we shall see?

I think it is the races of a world that make it unique, I do get tierd of the stereotypical Tolkien races; that road has been traveled down for far to long now.

Well, the problem is, there's not much literature to draw upon for designing a coherent system of multiple races apart from various folk myths and Tolkien (which is anyway mostly - mostly - a compilation of them, albeit very well done). If you know others, I'd be glad to hear about it, but most fantasy I've read is about humans. And when people are trying to do 'better than Tolkien', they sometimes end up with Eye of Argan ;)

Now I'm not going to tell you to do or not to do things a certain way, and you know all this better than me in any case, I just think that 1) novelty because you've got great novel ideas is good and 2) novelty for the sake of novelty is not so good. The same holds for any art form, and many art people don't like me too much for constantly reminding them that :)

And elves aren't gay, they are misunderstood, probably the most misunderstood fantasy race, thanks a lot to (among others) game called A, something, something and D.

Oh, and Hackmaster (which is basically the same thing anyway) has Grunge Elves, kind of Drow with mohawks which are kind of cool for first ten minutes or so. Not that I ever played any.
Birds come in flocks.
Sheep come in herds.
Mi-Go come in my dreams.

The races will be:

Dwarf, planet builders and engineers originaly from a Hi grav world hence the size.
Elves, though the name may change, tall long lifed race genetically enginered for space flight.
Humans, well it's our world ;)
Orcs, geneticaly engineered slave race.
Elder, well they will have a name, but I haven't got a good one yet.

The Vla (Vlatch, Vlatu and Vlakran) which are spirit races will feature quite a bit in the mythos, which is science not religion based.

There may be others, but the concept is all the races except humans, came from the stars, and will have a real reason to exist, and definately not a tolkien one.

This is a very non tolkien world/galexy/universe, and we may even hint at the Eldritch style race that manipulates and shapes the universe from their worlds inside black holes at the edge of the universe.

This isn't a small project, one full world to create, several others to outline, rules for world integration and development, galaxy and universe outline, gosh there will be a lot of stuff.

On KW there wont be space travel, as such, due to a force field that serounds the earth, which is where KW is, as it is one part of the multiverse that is the Spintered Earth.

Our world is part of it, pretty much as is, but with a limited amount of travel between the worlds, and as a little twist the Moon Haux conspericy theories will be true, as the force field prevents travel to the moon, though orbiting is ok, as it's a long way out.

And orcs aren't going to be the badies, as 'orcs are people too' so forget your stereo types when you come to KW.

I also don't want to go the hiding everything from players and GMs, this is going to be for real roleplayers that can differenciate between player and character knowlendge.

As for what is needed, I thought a master atlas, overviewing the world, then a local area module, the first being the Nordic Fringe, Scotia and Britania.

Oh did I mention Vampires ;)

I understand that Lithuania will be in the second one then? <_<

My cunning plan is to create a world that can be worked on by different people, who would create the different areas.

The best way of doing this is by having people work on areas they actually know.

However it is quite a bit like water world in that you have vast oceans that limit travel and exchange of ideas, thus you can have very divers areas indead.

The way I have worked out the maps it to just take earth and remove all of the big land masses, yes it's lazey, but it gives good maps and makes life easy.

wow...the project is reborn...

yes I still want to do this...

I also want to make it generic, with stats added for different systems.

I've got a lot of big real life issue going on at the mement so when they clear I'get my head round things again.

I've also got a new system I am working on that should be ready before we make a big push on KW
