Helvorn strode quickly down the hall, leaving the party still rubbing the sleep from their eyes and the guardsmen looking on.

Suddenly a loud thump was heard on Funkmaggot's door.

"Open up!" came the harsh cry, "In the name of the Rangers of the North!"

No, the RED is tens.

Funkmaggot's increasingly panicking voice came through the darkness some distance ahead.  "If it has nothing to do with me, then there was no need to break down the door...you're...you're lying!"

(ooc: I didn't think I heard the door smashed in..... typical wild Funk imagination...)

"Hrumph, Funk you are obviously afraid of the Rangers and have made it known, but running away makes it look like you have something to hide and makes them more eager to find you. If you don't come back to the Inn with me they will come looking for you...." Throk grumbles.

"Funk please come with me, I won't let them hurt you..." he pleads as he becomes more frustrated with the foolish hobbit, still moving gradually towards the shrill squeaking of the Halfling.

Funkmaggot's voice could be heard once again.

"I'm not afraid to face danger Throk, but I will not walk into a certain execution...I'll take my chances in the wild then...better to die on your feet than hanging from a noose...you say this is all a misunderstanding? Prove it to me...I want you to swear to me that you'll not see me harmed!"

Throk sighs and stops where he is, "Good to hear you are seeing sense. Very well Funk, you have my word. I will not see any harm befall you, so swears Throk son of Grok. Now come on out, let's head back into the Inn where it is warm and you can get dressed properly."

Funkmaggot:

looking supicious at Jorg: "Why would you want to bind me..." Looking at Throk: "You swore Throk...you swore!"

Jorg stretched.  Creeping quietly in man-form had put a kink in his back.

"Such precautions would not be necessary," he replied, "if you did not flee like a frightened rabbit at the vaguest scent of danger.   At any rate we have promised Helvorn to return with you, to prevent him having to come after you himself, and for that you should be grateful.  For he is a stern man, if my eyes see clear.   Also he is a skilled woodsman -- that I can see easily enough by his garb and gear, to say nothing of his tough limbs and weathered face.  You would not escape him out here.

"So do not call Throk an oathbreaker, for his vow was not to let you come to harm at the hands of Rangers, which surely you would have, had you remained out here much longer!

"I do not know the ways of men," Jorg went on, with a thoughtful look on his face, "other than my own kind.  But this Ranger has a wholesome smell about him.   An evil man would look fairer and feel fouler.  Helvorn is not the type to kill without need.  Else you would already be dead.

"Therefore I too will vow not to let you come to harm at his hands, unless it be through your own stupidity.  Besides, Helvorn has legitimate business with us.  We were the last to see his kinsman alive, and what role we played in that tragedy he does not yet know, but it is clearly important enough that he bring us before his Lord.  I myself am not ashamed to tell of my deeds in that marsh, nor in any other place!  Are you?

"Also, we bear a token of the dead man.  That token has some meaning, surely.

"But enough talk!  My jaw is weary!  And weariness turns quickly to anger in my folk!  You have seen enough to know that such anger has consequences.  Come then!"

And with that, Jorg turned away and paced quickly back towards the Inn.

Funkmaggot

Grumbles: "Vaguest scent of danger...sure if you're built like a bear...heck if you ARE a bear you might wait to see what comes inside when they break down your door...me I don't have that luxury...I need distance and a good set of arrows"
