Welcome to the play-by-post MERP game "Terror in the Trollshaws:  The Tale of the Fifth Overseer"!  I'm glad that you've chosen to check us out!

But there's a lot to know before you get started.  I've tried to make the threads you need to look at clean and logical, and I welcome you to IM me with any questions once you've followed steps 1-6 below.

1.  If you haven't already, you should look over at least the most recent posts in The Game Thread http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8671.0, to see if the game and the players seem interesting to you.

2.  Read the thread titled Background Material  http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8669.0.  This will give you a sense of the setting of the game.

3.  Look over the Teasers thread http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8670.0.  This may tell you something about the GM, and perhaps even pique your interest further.

4.  Read the thread titled Before You Begin  http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8674.0.  This will tell you how the game is played and arbitrated, and what's OK and what isn't.

5.  A look at Rules and Rulings http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8672.0 will help you understand the basic technics of MERP, which you will need to formulate and articulate your actions in the game.  The rules of MERP are relatively simple for the amount of complexity they produce, but you've got to know at least the basics to play.

6.  Open the thread titled Dramatis Personae http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8668.0 to see what characters are available.  There is a brief description of each character, and you will also see who else is playing.  New players may come into the game if others drop out, but no new characters will be admitted -- you can only choose from what's available.

7.  Send me an IM if you've decided to commit, and let me know what open PC you've chosen.  It would be helpful, too, if you include second and third choices,  particularly if you are getting in at the very beginning.  I'll respond with your invite.  It is very important that you not read any of the personal threads for any of the characters until you have received your invite and your character has been determined; and then, that you read only your own. Allowing characters to share the details of their lives in their own way and in their own time will add to the drama of the game, and provide opportunities for players to shape the story and write interesting posts.  This is how the tale is designed.

8.  Once invited, post your greeting on the Out of Game Posts thread  http://www.realroleplaying.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=8673.0, and let the other players know you're coming on board.

9.  Jump in and participate!  We look forward to your helping us shape the story!
