Collalto

nodded back at Ipato. He also tasked his other men with investigating the Germans.

Zen sighs. The capo clearly has one of those "do I need to do everything myself" days.

"Very well, I'll sent Antigone to the wine merchant".

The council mumers. Antigone being the very, veryvattractive assistant of Filippo Zen. The wine merchant might be heading for one of his better days. Or his worst ever, rumor has it Antigone once cut off some cherished part of an enemy, Zen saved her from the scaffold.

OOC: Ipato, Collato, roll prior knowledge please

Antigone enters the room. She turns quite a few heads, though the council could be divided in three: those that already made an intimate acquiantance with her, those that would like to, and those who'd like to all the same, but won't dare take the risk. Zen gives her whispered instructions.

Zorzi is a bit annoyed. As Antigone leaves he places his hands on her back - he clearly doesn't belong to the latter category - and thus having assured himself of some attention, he also pushes the next but of content:

"Now about the new Doge. We need to keep the French out, but we cannot neglect to inform them. Either through Mantua or Florence, I'd say. Who will do that, and how?"

Ipato

speaks immediately, uncharacteristically for him. "Mantua. I shall see to it."

He rises to leave.

Ipato has left, off to his letter writing - there is no way he'll go in person, that would take too long. As any good Venetian, he has reliable agents and couriers. The chamber is getting emptier now, with more people off to work. A busy day is clearly taking shape. At least for those inclined to be busy, a few of the less ambitious members of the council start playing cards to fill the time while waiting for developments.

Zen meanwhile continues with politics.

"Now, Zorzi, tell me: who would you absolutely not want to see as our new doge?"

That is a fairly unusal question, even for Zen. No doubt he's trying to trick Zorzi, and after a moment's reflection, he sees through it.

"If you mean to imply I was behind the rumours that lead to Foscari's arrest? That was weeks ago. And the rumours proved to be well founded."

"Yes, he was indeed paying with impure coins. Good falsifications. And we still haven't figured out where they came from. But you own a smelting business, don't you? And aren't you the ones who mints the coins for Siena nowadays? Through your little cousin?"

Zorzi bites his tongue, clearly needing effort for that. Lot's of effort.

Zen resumes. "Ah well, as it happens I don't like Foscari for Doge either."

Zorzi has enough. He also leaves the room. But not for long....
