Aftermath! Magic!
« on: November 12, 2008, 05:39:49 PM »
We frequently get requests for Aftermath! Magic! - here's the history.

1st edition - entitled "Multiverse Sorcery" - 40 copies printed, numbered and signed at the printer, plain brown cover. These were given to playtesters, the copyright office and FGU for review. These were not publicly sold.

2nd printing - still entitled "Multiverse Sorcery", plain green cover. 16 copies produced.

2nd edition - retitled Aftermath! Magic! Orange cover with tiger. <100 copies produced.

Then I focused on Aftermath! Technology! 1st edition - 1000 copies printed, Dinosaur games published, Mark Poole cover.

Aftermath! Magic! was briefly available as a PDF from RPGNow/RPGEdge.

Aftermath! Technology! 2.0 released 2008 by FGU.
Aftermath! Survival Guide released 2008 by FGU. (It bumped Magic! on the production schedule)
Aftermath! Magic! 2.0 will now be released by FGU in 2009.

awwwwwww....

Anyone have an idea of when in 2009 for Aftermath! Magic?

I played in a fantasy game that used a homebrewed magic system in the Aftermath! rules set and it was really good after the first couple games in which we stumbled through the learning of new things. Actually it was brillant.

I really like how a tiered system forces the player to make choices. I also like how the system runs pretty smoothly after the learning curve part. My guess is that the magic system follows the same kind of scheme in sort of a branched tree of stuff you can do.

Really looking forward to pawing a copy of this and seeing how it compares to the handmade one. I bet it is even better after getting a chance to be professionally developed.

GIMEE!

Aftermath! Magic! uses a tiered system as well, but it is more generic. There are different spell theory classes that are prereqs for knowing a spell, and each spell is a skill. (though you can attempt one with just the theory - but it's dangerous).

We tried a number of tree systems, but the playtesters found that the final system we ended up with was more balanced to game play.

Remember, in Aftermath! Magic!, there are something like 475 spells. (and each one is a skill costing 1-7 skill points, plus pre-reqs.)

We won't announce a date until the artwork is underway.

Great, and I just bought a bunch of furniture and don't have enough cash for Valentine's day. Don't know how I'm going to convince the wife I have enough for this.

When mine comes in and i have digested it, I'll post some feedback.

As a side note, I took a step back and looked at FGU is a company - they have an excellent lineup of products, some of my favs are Flashing Blades, Bushido, and Aftermath! My wife says their online presence and marketing makes her cry teary angel tears of lost revenues, but I get the vibe this company might be run by one busy guy with a RL job and family.

Dude...you do NOT miss Valentine's day. Ever.

I'm not sure if chicks get madder at missed Valentine's day or catching you in their bed with two sheep, a young arab boy, their neighbor's daughter, and the lunch lady from your kid's school. Probably missed Valentine's day.

The furniture was her Valentines gift. Before I was married I made do with a 25$ couch and a recliner I tore the headrest off of. I could do the same now the kids wouldn't care, but for some reason she felt the need to have decent furniture.

I started working that angle this morning. Not successful so far.
