Duel?
« on: December 06, 2008, 12:41:52 AM »
Sorloc,

May we engage in mock combat in this thread? Sort of knock the dust of the players that are rusty, and perhaps offer the new to HERO players more of a chance to test things out "in play" so to speak?

Something nice and simple, like a 50" diameter hemisphere (25" tall in the middle), we can start 20" apart and begin?

Change the name of the Topic to 'Danger Room'
You be Referee.
Participation is strictly voluntary.
I encourage team-based combats (PCs vs Giant Robots or PCs vs well-balanced small group of Supers), this will help the players in encounters soon to come.

(I'm debating with myself to make you take it out of my Game Forum and put it in the System Talk area or something... haven't decided.  It might be more accessible there for people not in my game at the moment)

Let's get this thing started.

Atom Man steps into the Danger Room.

GM uses 1000 AP of Shrink on the Danger Room.
Atom Man is now Atom-sized.

~GM wins~

How about instead, we move it to the "Sand Table". . .can treat it like a board game there, where board games belong.

I dunno if I want to GM it, or even if it needs one with these characters. . .nobody here has a transform attack or anything that crazy. . . .simply count off the phases and move on your dex. . .there's not really much to argue about here. . .A fires an EB at B, the range is 10" the mods are X, OCV vs DCV is Y-. .

1 on 1 combats may not train us danger room style for the game, but it will at least iron out the kinks in terms of how to move and attack, and what the considerations are. (I'm not keen on creating a villian team or a horde of robots, and most of the "classic villians" would paste the whole group. . .I'll take a look in that folder if we get bored of beating up on each other, but no Dr Destroyer.)

But yeah, this would likely be clutter over here. . .so open it on the sand table?

No, I don't mind it being here...
Perhaps a link from a thread at the Sand Table (don't know how feasible that is), but Here is good, I've already linked to it, and I'd like to see it renamed.
The combats shouldn't take long, but if they stack up, this could become a subforum, and there could be multiple Danger Rooms.

Waves magic wand.

You mean something like this?

Epo, as much as I'd love to run while you beat the protons out of me, I've got a flight to nashville in 3 hours, so you'll have to wait until next week to strip my atomic structure. . .but I'll definitely take your gauntlet up then.

Thanks.

I am fine with that. I am actualy waiting to knock your speedster arse down a peg or two......

This actually reminds me of a time several years ago when a group of mine would pass the time between long rounds of combat we were not involved in (during FtF play) with mock combat. We would each pick a character within the same system we were playing and go at it mano-e-mano. It could be a 1st level character against a 10th level. It was great. It taught you how to use your character in creative ways and not get bee-atch slapped around because you ran berserker style into a fight.

This is great with Champions as it would be useful for working out the combat of rusty players, or even teaching newer players how it works.

(ooc...I am thinking of using this in my Warriors game to iron out combat)

A new Topic should be started for each combat, I'm thinking...
I'd put Silhouette in there, but one of her biggies is a Presence Attack...

I think that is a great idea.

Why not put her in there? That way, there is some idea of just how badass ahe can be. Also, it will give us some ideas of how to stop the baddies you are planning on using......

Be careful what you ask for.
"How do you hold on to an angel?"

"Hook em by the wing joint. You know where it jogs in there? Clip or a claw... a snare would do it."
