Um...gherardo...you do realize that Thridsvader is the big boss of Albrec, right? Your boss? A Noble? Deserving of massive deference and bowing and respect? A guy who keeps his Thaneship by being exceedingly badass and killing things right?

*looks away* I can't watch!

Good save. But I'm still a bit worried. Thridsvader seems a bit...excitable. And also violent. And probably a mean drunk.

Like all the Thanes, even if I fear that, with such a name (...vader), it's better if we take a low profile!

Duh'oh! Well, if you've really pissed him off, hide. You'd know that the guy most likely to calm his mood's in town at least, but right now he's at the last place you want to go - the Thane's hall! Still, you know he's bound to come down into the village to exchange gossip and any messages that need carrying before long. Better rustle up some mead. . .

Once all the PCs are finished and introduced, could we get one sticky "Cast of Characters" post, with one sentence summaries of each important PC/NPC?

You know, "Karl Lander: travelling Skald, charismatic and charming."
"Morgana Helsdottir: Sorceress and daughter of a well known Thane"
"Gareth: Son of a smith of Albrec...first making his way into the world and looking for adventure."
"Brogan Rognvaldson: Man-At-Arms out to avenge the murder of his family"
"Adrian: Traveller, Carouser, Man-Ho"
"Mala: Clanswoman warrior from an isolated community of warrior tribes. She has ventured out into the world part as exile, part as spirit quest."

you know...something like that.

on that note too - since Brogan is not declaring himself openly as the sole survivor of the Raku clan's massacre (so I'm guessing that his goals of revenge are likewise kept to himself) it would be good to present his "public face" as well - a little clearer impression of "Cormac's protege." Is he assumed to be Cormac's son? Adopted son?

As a newcomer to the region Mala is simply a mysterious stranger. I'm guessing for now that she came *down* the mountain to Tinton rather than up the valley - else she'd have passed through Albrec briefly a few days before and certainly been noticed by the locals. If you want to take the latter route Silverthorne, drop me a line and I'll happily make up some speculation regarding her and her origins that the villagers have given voice to. . . :P

Snargash...do you have access to a map that I don't have access to? If so...spill the beans! I want to see a map!

nope - I don't think there is one yet. I know that Albrec is downstream from Tinton and Parsaii lies on the river Myseanth of which that stream is a tributary. Redwyck Vale is something I pulled out my rear - I'm currently imagining the Brightwater as a stream parallel to this - the next valley over from which Karl recently traveled. So far I've got no orientation - these features may lie in any direction.

I imagine Leofrham being over the way. Not next door to Albrec, but somehow close enough in the region that Tinton would be one of its tin suppliers. So...in the region. Near Lime deposits for the glass making...with room to raise sheep/cattle for the parchment/vellum making. It may be more mountain than valley. I don't know.

yeah - I'm not clear how high the mountains run either - the Black Wood may cover more than a single valley. I'm from Denver (living in Portland, OR now) so I tend to think of mountains as the Rockies: rising well above the treeline and placing boundaries up on the forests, but these may be more like the Blue, Smoky, Ozarks of the east over which a broad forest may spread.

If tin is used primarily for coloring glass then I would guess its not a huge amount needing shipment - it could be packed further into the mountains reasonably. I don't know if the streams can even handle small boats - punts, prams, dinghys, though the river clearly supports heavier traffic.

The tin would be just for coloring glass...so Leofrham would probably be a town in need of lots of different ores in smaller amounts. I could well imagine that Leofrham is in the foothills of the mountain, not on the opposite side of Albrec...but if Albrec were 6 o'clock, maybe Leofrham would be 4 o'clock or 3 o'clock. They are probably on a parallel river. But I imagine them nestled near a limestone quarry, I imagine it being a town attracting those who wish to work glass, to be scribes/illuminators/parchmenters, and those who wish to study (The Phantom Queen is much concerned with the acquisition of knowledge) either mundane arts or arts magical. I imagine the native towns people being being farmers/loggers/sheepherders/goatherder. I also imagine that although it attracts others to it, it remains a town and not a city because it is somewhat remote and not in a most pleasant part of the mountain. And I imagine it probably isn't the best area for agriculture. Sort of a bit of a harsh place.

When I pictured the clan house it was up a mountain.  So probably came down the mountain.

Personally, I had pictured you as being from further away than just up this mountain, but that's you're call.

Also, to answer the other question about mountains, these are hte foothills of some more Rockies/Alps-style mountains.  Forests extend up and over these, but the big ones just beyond have treelines.  The Black Forest also streches down the mountainsides and through the valleys out quite a ways.  It's big.

I just put the village up a mountain, not which one.  So being further away works for me.

Cool cool.  I'll have to sketch a map eventually.  lol.

Btw, to Gherardo, we're going to roll with your comments as they stand.  It works better for the plot I had planned this way.  Please just don't give him more reason to be mad.

Also, OOC text will now be maroon sincen no one saw the beige comment naming him as Simo Thridsvader Albrec.

a bit of info stuck in my head.. Water clan is by a river/sea in a tropical climate.  Fire clan near an active volcano, within a few days of one anyhow.  Earth clan is in the desert.. that help any..

I've got to go to bed. But this is what I've got for you.

Leofrham specializes in glass work and scribey stuff. So they need to be by a river for the parchment making and by limestone for the glass work. They need to be able to raise/sheep goats. Hel is building a library and attracting those who want to study...either mystical or mundane--the Circle are probably one the groups that do a lot of book education for people--I think Hel wants to create in Leofrham a sort of university...okay so 5-10 students isn't a university...but you get the idea. The reason why this place is a town and not a city is because it is remote and not in the most pleasant environment. Perhaps in the mountains? The glass makers need smaller amounts of ore from all sorts of random places, and I imagine they get some of their tin from Tinton.

Sounds good, trooper6.  Leofrham will be thus.
