As Gareth sits on the side of the road, a stranger comes wandering down from the mountain path with a sword at his hip and pack on his back.

Adjusting the straps of his pack Brogan approaches the man sitting along the road, taking in as much as he can about him, and stops a few paces away.  "Good Morn Sir. What villages is this?" he pauses awaiting for answer and then asks
"Do you think I might be able to get something to eat here?  I'm willing to work for it"

Use Obersavation to not only check the man out but his immediate surroundings as he approaches

The man appears to be in his early to mid teens.  His pack and possessions suggest he is leaving the village on a journey of some kind.  The village itself has several farms and workers are about toiling under the sun.  You notice no smoke rises from the workshops south of the village.  Otherwise, it is a quiet and uneventful morning.

Gareth

"Albrec! The name of this village is Albrec!".
Gareth stands up and smiles at the stranger, as if cool air were gently blown upon him on a hot summer day.
"Are you... an adventurer? A wanderer? Ah... uhm... my name is Gareth! I'm an adventurer! Well... not quite... not yet... but...".
He takes a deep breath, then continues "Well, stranger! I can accompany you to the best shelter you could find there! Just follow me!"

Gareth thinks to himself briefly about which farms are best knwon for their hospitality and recalls that Old Man Frei is in need of a farmhand and has had an empty room since three of his slaves caught the coughing sickness this past winter and died.

Otherwise, the Eggers are usually known for their hospitality when the occassional stranger passes through, even if they can be a little greedy about payment.

There are no inns in Albrec.  Albrec is not a large city, or even really a city.  It's a backwoods village that ships its bronze down the river to merchants in a larger market town where it is sold.

"May the Day bring you good fortune Gareth, I am Brogan. I would have to say I am more of a traveller than anything else and if it is a meal you lead me to then I will follow"
Brogan waits for for Gareth to lead the way and walks beside him conintuing to to survey the village of Ablrec.
Gareth, I must apologize but I couldn't help notice that seem to packed to for the road and just a tad bit disappointed to be going into this village.  Is there a problem that a stranger you just met along the road should be aware of?

"You can say that again, Brogan! Albrec is a small peace-loving and industrious village. Many people there are artisans who rely heavily on the tin shipped by a small mining village nearby called Tinton. Inexplicably, no shipments of tin have been received for quite some time and our supplies are almost depleted! I'm worried about what's happened over there and I would be sure everybody's all right.".
He hesitates for a few seconds, then adds "Ehm... several months ago I saw a girl from Tinton... she went there with his father, a merchant. I didn't pluck up the courage to introduce myself to her... she was so beautiful..."
He winks at his interlocutor to minimize his last words, then points a farm out to him "Well, here you'll find a meal and a bed. Old Man Frei is in need of a farmhand and has had an empty room too, since three of his slaves caught the coughing sickness this past winter and died. But, I would suggest you another more confortable option... the Eggers! Their hospitality is legendary... if you can afford it!"
Gareth starts laughing as encourages Brogan to follow him.

Peace loving village but not everyone that lives here

"Tin from Tinton aye?" Brogan says quietly and slightly chuckles to himself as Gareth continues on.
"Gareth", Brogan over exaggerates the motion of checking his pouch and smiles "it looks like the Old Man Frei will hopefully welcome the help with a meal or two"

The two of you approach a particularly sparce farm.  Only one person is about, adn she is not plowing, despite the apparent need for it.  A quick call from Gareth draws the old man from a workshop near the road.

"What 'ave we 'ere?  Gareth, m'boy, how are ya?  Who's this?  I've not seen him 'round here before," he says with a rustic accent.

The old man perks an eyebrow at the word, "help," and amiably responds, "Eh?  I could use the help, that's for certain!  Surely surely, Brogan, yeh can have a room and bread if yeh don't min' helpin' me with these fields a bit.  At my age, I can barely guide the plough."

As he speaks, he walks everyone around to the gate and lets them inside.

As he enters, Gareth, being curious by nature, can't restrain himself from looking around.

As you walk through his property, you notice his workshops are not staffed and his fields lie only partially plowed.  His animals still appear to be tended, but the farm is not in good shape.  He leads you to the a smaller outbuilding and swings the door inward to reveal a single dwelling with an earthen floor and a pit for a fire in the center.  The thatch roof looks like it might leak a little in a downpour, but otherwise it's in good shape.  In one corner is a hay matress and a bucket.

"This'd be the lodgin I can offer.  I'll supply an ox an' plow for your workand any tools for other jobs, and I'll give you a loaf of bread and a pound of meat a day, along with a pint of mead.  The river water's drinkable, so ye can always get somethin t' drink there 'r use a bucket.  Does it suit your fancy?"

Old Man Frei eyes you inquisitively from under his wrinkled brow.  His head sits slightly forward on his shoulders and his nostrils flare with each breath as he awaits your response.

Adrian

At that moment you hear a rustle and a grunt from behind.  Turning, you see out of the corner of your eye a tall, lean fellow vaulting over the low rise fence.  He lands gracefully in full run, headed straight for the shack you are in.  Reaching the entryway, he dives in, rolling on the ground and proping himself up in the corner, out of view from the outside.

The stranger wears a simple brown cloak and has wavy copper hair that is short but shaggy.  Upon seeing Brogan, a grin spreads across his face.  He then flinches as a voice is heard, just barely within earshot and growing fainter:

"No, don't do it papa, he said he LOVED me!"

The stranger appears to evaluate his safety, and satisfied, he stands sheepishly.

"Uh, Hi there Brogan.  Gentlemen.  I hope I haven't interrupted anything."

Gareth

Astonished more than worried for his safety and mumbling a greeting, Gareth looks at the new stranger with curiosity.
TWO strangers here! Will Albrec become an overcrowded city?, he thinks with a pinch of satisfaction.
"I'm Gareth and he is Frey. I suppose you too need a shelter... If so, this is the cheaper youl'll find here in Albrec!"
He smiles at the man, then looks at the Old Man's face and adds "Ehm... the best accomodation... cheaper too!"

"Frei, think you could use the lot of us"?

"Oh certainly I could!  I s'pose you've already wondered at why m'fields look as they do.  M'slaves died this past winter of a cough, an' now with spring acomin', I need the help.  If y'two would pitch in a hand, I'd gladly let ya'll stay as long as yeh want."

Frei eyes Adrian for a moment and asks, "Perhaps y'might tell me jus' what yer doin' on my property, though.  You can call me Frei."

Adrian

Adrian grasps Brogan with a traditional forearm grab, nodding appreciatively.  He then offers it in turn to Gareth and Frei.

"Well met, sirs.  I'm glad see you made it here well yourself, Brogan."

Adrian dusts himself off with mild fan-fare.

"I apologize for my trespass, but I had been startled by a rather nasty brute over a simple misunderstanding.  I will gladly recompense if you so desire."

After looking around at the slave shack and outdoors at the untended fields, he turns back with a pained expression.

"Alas, I will have to decline the offer for lodging.  I've never been one for... slaves' work." Adrian hisses the word as detest drips off of it  "If either of you fine gentlemen would direct me to a place where my fine coin would be accepted for a fine bed, I would be ever so gracious." He says with a hopeful look in his eyes and an anxious (please let there be such a place) smile.
