The croud cheers for the first draw of blood but are unimpressed with gladiators preening and huddling together. Rotten fruit is being flung into the arena.

Epoh Fossolo jeers his gladiators on....

"Kill something already!"

There is a huge roar from the crowd as the skilled Vires Transfixes the hapless Prospectus with a spear through the head, shattering his skull.

Before anything is said.......

.....Yes we all concede the wound roll of 16 (modified to17) was high. After that with the crit......a 4 or more on 2d6 would have seen him killed, so the 10+5=15 was overkill.

C'est le geurre! When you go full defensive, there is no chance of you killing your foe.

To try and keep things clear (since there are lots of fighters in the arena), I will mark dead fighters with a "prone" marker as well as a red square.

The crowd roars with anticipation as two more sets of gladiators face off, will there be any more dramatic bloodshed or will the fight settle into gradual whittling down blow by blow?

baerrach has contacted me, his work machine is getting reimaged so he cant get online.

He will post moves later tonight, and I'll turn the game over then.

He asks me to curse the dice gods and gladiators with high strength who cause him to lose his spears!

Well looks like that is it for me.
Thanks everyone, particularly Usdrothek for running this game.
It was a game from my childhood that I had fond memories of and always wanted to play again.

Thanks for playing and staying the distance.

I've always wanted to do the monetary campaign game for many years, Its good to finally see it done.

Sorry you had the lion's share of poor luck.

I've enjoyed it too.

Its even started me thinking about writing a web based version with javascript... but haven't been motivated enough yet.

Luck definitely plays a large part (perhap too large)
Large variations in combatant Strengths (or just 4+ str) is devastating for dropped weapons.  Once you dont have a weapon you are stuffed.  I'd have to do the math but I think it happens too often - or perhaps the gladiators are too strong.

Now, lets see if I can survive - being trapped in the middle between two gladiator stables... hmmm

Luck does play a large factor, you're right.

Remember average Str is 0 or 1. Strength 4+ is massive.

An automated Java version would be cool.

Thanks Reenark, I've enjoyed the machinations too.

Good luck on the other boards.

Holy crap!

I have just seen the biggest attack result we have seen all campaign.

7CF attack rolls a 17 on 3d6 for a truely fearsome Hit+8!! The wound roll of 11, adding 8 was enough to see an instant kill.

It seems Reenark's curse has jumped after all.

If it makes it any better (it doesn't), even 7 wounds probably would have seen you dead with the crit.  :ill:

The Chopping Bloc's stable erupts with cheers and chants as Josephus spears his prey and a spray of blood whips across the floor of the arena.

The crowd chants along with the members of the stable as Josephus wipes his face off....

Blood! Blood! Blood Blood! Blood! Blood! Blood!

The crowd screams and is near riotous in their need for blood from this specticle.

Epoh Fossolo turns to his fellow stable master....

"Shall we give Tancredo all the money by fighting amongst ourselves. I have lost much to that gladiator of his. Shall we put aside the fighting and focus on a common enemy?"

He then yells towards Argus

"Make me proud! Stand and fight!"

A despondent Reenark overhears the conversation between Baerrach and Epoh Fossolo and thinks to himslef "Hmm that suggestion sounds familiar. If I recall correctly on the previous occasion it was dismissed by the parties it was proposed to as unethical. Looks like a change of heart at this late stage of the games."

Tancredo overhearing his fellow stable owners talk, lets out a loud laugh,

"Ah my friends, it is good to see the spirit of Rome is still alive! My sturdy gladiators shall enjoy the contest!"
