Old World Of Darkness
« on: August 24, 2009, 11:05:54 AM »
Greetings!

I've been directing WoD (the old setting) for many years now. The longest campaign I mastered lasted for 8 years, and developed a rich background. I've been on a break for some time now, and the other day i found the tons of material i created, the adventure plots and history trees i made for that long run.

Then i thought it would be just a shame for all of it to go to waste... so here i am. You can inscribe yourself here if you want to play this one.

There are some background considerations you should be aware of, before playing or thinking about your character:

 - The campaign would start in a werewolf-centered background, but it will advance and develop throughout the story. I will begin to include mages, other changing breeds, vampires and changelings.

 - PCs at the start SHOULD be werewolves. The main caern for this story (unless the players decide to build one of their own) will be in the U.S. (in the state of Montana, near Canada). The Caern is an effort made by three tribes: The Black Furies, The Wendigo, and The Uktena. Other tribes are welcome (some more than others) but don't expect the same treatment if you are from another tribe (you will be a guest, after all)

 - Besides that, I won't put many restrictions on what the players can or can't make with their characters. I have all the main books, player books and storyteller books of old WoD, all tribe books and changing breeds books, all the umbra books, and a couple of other background books. All the canon works good for me. Just, no Abominations or vampires at first. Night-only characters don't mix well with caern politics and add lots of difficulties to the group dynamics. Just think about your partners too.

 - Expect serious travelling. I like to move the players around the world (and the umbra), so maybe it could be a good idea to have some language skills.

About characters:

I'd like to play with 4-6 players (more are complicated, but i've directed up to 8, and less are boring if they're not very active).

You should think or prepare a new character, out of the books. Any "special" consideration, you should tell me beforehand. Your characters will know each other at the start, and will be members of the same caern (except for the guests, as i discussed, but it will be long-time guests, so they will be known and accepted).

The two-step character creation: Every character will begin the game with up to 21 xp and up to 3 permanent renown dots. This will be awarded depending on your backstory. I'm decided to let you play a "difficult" character if you provide me with a good story to justify that, and i will award the beginning xp and renown for making up a good story.

The "Pack Pool": If two or more of the players decide to present me a common background story, so they will be a pack before starting, they will be awarded with 5 more extra xp from the "Pack Pool". Of course, those are for weres only. I favour (i.e. xp bonuses) acting always like a pack (that doesn't mean to be an effing boy-scout, a Shadow Lord can be as plotting and despicable as he wants, but he WILL NOT betray HIS pack).

NEWBIES: If you're a newbie in the Old World Of Darkness setting, or just in the Werewolf one, don't worry at all, you can play a very interesting secondary game. Just contact me, and we'll easily create a new character, who should be a child or teenager (between 8 and 16 years old). You may tell me about some of his human (and, very probably, all f*cked up) background, and i'll take note of that for awarding later xp. Then, we'll go together through your rite of passage. That will introduce you to the werewolf world. If more than one person wants to start as a newbie, they're free to do so. The players who start as a seasoned weres will be taking part on the rite of passage if they want to (but not receiving more xp, they already have more than enough)

Game flow and disponibility: I'm usually connected 2-6 hours to internet in a regular day (even more, in the weekends), so i can assure you i'll try to make it run without unconvistops. If i'm not available for a day (or a few days), I'll warn you beforehand.

This game has been announced for recruiting in the White Wolf forum, too.

Hope you enjoy this.
Oriol.

I may be interested in this, providing you get some additional players.

If there were at least 4 people interested, I'd start the campaign. A nice thing would be to have different auspices in the pack, by the way.

About the system, i usually tend to avoid rolling dices, using that rule that says:

If (Dice_pool >= difficulty)
   {
       Epic_Win = TRUE;
    }
Else
   {
       Roll_dice_and_cross_your_fingers();
   }

Clear, isn't it?

I hope we can get enough players... :)

Hmm, yeah, I'm going to have to back out of this game.  Real Life just took more free time away from me, sigh.  I hope you are enjoying the Firefly game Blaquesmith.  Cya there.

I am totally interested. I haven't played WoD in a very long time. It would be fun playing a warewolf again. Let me know when it starts.
You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...  - Vizzini

Then we now have 3 players:

 - Eanwulfe
 - epohfossol
 - trollblood 2008

I'd rather play with 4 people at least, but if you three players are willing to start, we can do so and add more players to the pack as we go. Your choice.  :mellow:

The thread for character creation is already open!

If someone is interested in the game, go there and begin creating your own character!

Enjoy!

epohfossol, you have some PMs... the game has already started, and i still don't have your character. Let me know if you need help.

My idea is to finish preludes and cut to the actual story soon, so it would be great if you had your character before sunday, november 22th.

You seemed interested, so I think it would be a pity if you got left behind by the other players...

If you're not interested anymore, or you don't have time, just tell me so i can leave free slots in case some other player wants to join.

If you're still in need of players for this game and wouldn't mind teaching a total newb, I'd love to join.

Oh, there is one last spot. If you're willing to learn, I can arrange something.

We can prepare a character sheet, maybe a teenager who has had his/her first change (12-14 years old). This way, the others can begin teaching you on-the-fly.

What do you think about it? If you're OK, I'll write you in the players list and we'll begin with this. You have to think about your character's story. Which kind of parents does he/she have, which kind of family has he/she born in, etc. I'll take from there and build a character for you.

Since you have not played before, i recommend a Homid Character (born as human). Tribe/Auspice will be determined by me depending on the story you write.  :wizi:

Waiting for your answer.

That sounds great, thanks! I'll start work on a character right now. Is there anything special I need to know or keep in mind before I start, or should I just go for it?

just read the Character Creation thread, you can get ideas from there. It's better if you write the story first, then i'll create the character.

As I said, the story of your character until He has his first change. I'll take care of the rest.
