As I started to look at converting Garav over from CODA, I began to realize that the Andorian Defense Force ranks in LUG's Among the Clans supplement no longer reflected the reality created by the Andorian Imperial Guard as depicted in ENT. So, I decided to make the ADF ranks more closely align with their AIG predecessors.

In case you don't remember, four AIG ranks were mentioned on screen: General, Captain, Commander, and Lieutenant. So, extrapolating that, here are the new ADF ranks:

General Officers
Chief of the General Staff and Senior Commanding General of the ADF (only one at this rank)
Commanding General
Senior General

Field and Fleet Officers
Captain (shipboard appointment)

First Lieutenant (only one at this rank for each command)
Flight Lieutenant (shipboard appointment)
Senior Lieutenant

Non-Commissioned Officers
First Sergeant (only one at this rank for each command)
Flight Sergeant (shipboard appointment)
Senior Sergeant

Carabinier or Crewman (shipboard appointment)

Shipboard appointment ranks are for only those ADF personnel permanently assigned to a starship. Commanders can command ships, but captains are senior to them, as they are dedicated to shipboard duty.

Using this system, Garav returned to the ADF at the rank of Commander.

Thoughts? Ideas? (And, I deliberately decided not to use Graalen from the sourcebook, as the resulting titles were too close together to be useful.)

Since he's a former PC, here's a look at how I interpreted Garav as a Major NPC:

Andorian Defense Force Commander Garav keth Idrani (MAJOR NPC)
31-year-old Andorian male (b. 2257, Andoria)
Deputy Program Manager for Fleet and Force Security, Farsha Tactical Analysis Center, Andoria

Control 11
Daring 9
Fitness 11
Insight 10
Presence 7
Reason 8

Command 3
Conn 4
Security 5
Engineering 2
Science 1
Medicine 1

STRESS    16

Andorian Traditional Weapons, Composure, Forensics, Hand Phasers, Interrogation, Security Systems

- Collaboration (Security; whenever an ally attempts a Security Task, you may spend 1 Momentum (Immediate) to allow them to use your score for that Discipline, and one of your focuses)
- Martial Artist (Your Unarmed Strike attacks gain the Intense Damage Effect)
- Proud and Honorable (Your personal integrity is unimpeachable, and you will not willingly break a promise made; whenever you attempt a Task to resist being coerced into breaking a promise, betraying your allies, or otherwise acting dishonorably, you reduce the Difficulty by 1)
- Tough (Whenever you Avoid an Injury, the cost is reduced by 1, to a minimum of 1)

Do Not Wrong Me
Home Isn’t Such a Bad Place to Be
Proud of His Martial Heritage
Slow to Warm to Newcomers

Andorian Plasma Pistol (Ranged, 8^ Intense, Deadly, Size 1H)
Hrisal (Melee, 7^ Vicious 1, Size 1H) (no Opportunity cost, as this is ADF standard issue)

Just for fun, a little Orion:

Latinized Script

A'ah' - as in car
AAlengthened "two-count" 'ah'
AI'ay' as in play
E'eh' - as in bet
EE'eh-yeh' - the "y" sound is very short
I'ee' - as in sing
O'oh' - as is coat
OO'oh-woah' - the "w" sound is very short
AO'aw' - as in caw or prawn
'placeholder (silent) vowel, only found in names and words of ancient origin, like D'Nesh

Syllable Rules

Each syllable must have a consonant, followed by a vowel. At the beginnings of words, a vowel may precede the pair. One or two consonants may follow the pair at any place within the word.

Personal Pronouns
Personal pronouns as an object are added as a prefix, suffix, or an insert into a verb. As an subject, the root (A-verb form) is modified in groups.

Verbs, Conjugation, & Tense
The root form in all verbs ends in -AL. This ending is dropped when conjugated, and only kept when used as an infinitive paired with another verb.

Conjugation is based on the first vowel of the verb. For A-Verbs (that is, verbs with the first vowel being A), the suffix -AL is replaced with the conjugation suffix. For E-Verbs, the suffix -AL is dropped and a conjugation prefix is added. For O-Verbs, the suffix -AL is dropped and the first vowel is replaced with the conjugation insert.

For AA/EE/OO-Verbs, no conjugation takes place; only the suffix -AL is dropped.

Past tense verbs are preceded by the word "DEL" ("ADELA" for AA/EE/OO-Verbs). Future tense verbs are preceded by the word "MONN" ("AMONNI" for AA/EE/OO-Verbs).

The negative of a verb is expressed with the prefix FO- (FOL- for a verb beginning with a vowel)

IA-AA--A-(me) FA
youE-EE--E-(you) FE
heO-OO--O-(him) OD
sheLO-ALOLO--OLO-(her) LOD
you (pl.)EE-EEHEE--EE-(you (pl.)) VEE
theyOO-OOHOO--OO-(them) VOO

Some Grammar Notes
Orions who have learned Federation Standard will often phrase their sentences in a Verb-Object-Subject structure, for example, "Goes he home," (He goes home.) or "Will go he home." (He will go home.) This indicates the idea that the verb in the Orion language takes precedence over the object in a sentence. ("Goth marraki.")

Translation of that Earlier Conversation in the Bar
Ayed chaaral - What think you? (What do you think?)
Yarramovai inlenk chaaral goosh - What quantity coin think you they have? (How much coin do you think they have?)
Monn haakerr shao - Kill we them later. (We can kill them later.)
Tannsa monn avo - Taansa won’t appreciate it.
Ilenk monn mindo - Coin will change his mind.

FYI, I'll be on vacation starting Saturday (through 1 August), in which I'll be driving back home to KC. While I'm on the road (20-23 July, and 29 July-1August), I expect I won't have much time for posting anything significant, and we'll see what I have time for while I'm home (wife plans to keep us busy).
