She goes back to her tent and crawls in. When she comes back out she has a lever action 30-30 in her hand. "It will probably kill a bear if you hit it right, but I wouldn't shoot it unless you had to."

"Thanks, I won't shoot unless I have to." he agrees.

He can hardly hear the engine start, but he can hear the ice crunching under the tires as she leaves.

Jesse lies back down, but leaves the tent flap open.

He checks the 30-30 out, familiarising himself with its action. Other than that he lies down to rest and ponder what the 'war' could be, and who Peggy really might be.

He drifts off, and is awakened by his dog barking frantically. The tent flap is zipped, but he can hear something rustling outside.

Can he tell if it sounds large or small? Is it touching the tent?

Jesse holds the rifle in one hand, then slowly unzips the tent as quietly as he can, about a foot, so he can see out.

He wants to see who or what is making the noise.

The dog strains to get out of the tent as he unzips the flap. It's still daylight, so he has no trouble seeing the very large raccoon trying to get into Peggy's tent.

Jesse is relieved to see the raccoon. After talk of war and bears, he was starting to get jumpy.

"Go get it boy." he urges the dog, letting him run.
