Spells developed beyond those already gained for second level will be chosen via discussions with the player (so you will know what spells are known).  Likewise I'll work with everyone as I increase the character levels.  So everyone will have a rough idea of their skill values, but won't know the exact value.

As far as the spreadsheet, that is the one (it is a newer version than what I have saved at home so if anything it should provide even more options and have more races).

Next question... training packages and supplement books eg book of under ground races?

Also are you happy for us to generate potential using the spreadsheet, would you rather do it  or use the dice roller here?

Yes, for the most part I'll allow training packages and such out of most of the books (if there is something I have an issue with I'll discuss it with the player individually, but for the most part, as long as the character is at least moderately well balanced it should be fine, and any that aren't will be evened out with the other characters over the remaining levels that I'll handle the development on).

Yes, using the spreadsheets built in stat potential generator is okay (although again if the results are way out of balance, then I'll deal with it directly with the player at that point).

Personally I believe in trying to be flexible and allowing players to have a character that they are going to enjoy playing and are going to be committed to using in the setting, so I try to be at least somewhat lenient when it comes to development, just so long as the character isn't of Superman or Chuck Norris caliber it should not be a problem.

... I will be checking things over to be sure that the characters are balanced with one another, so as long as you don't go overboard it should be fine (any characters that are under-balanced I will contact the players to discuss options to bring their characters up to the same point as the more powerful characters).
...

Can you work the balancing in both directions? I.e. tone down the overly powerful characters as well as boost the weaker ones to some sort of middle ground.

Yes, to some degree (if any of the characters are way to powerful) this will occur.  Ultimately it will depend on the specifics of the characters, if all are very closely balanced, then I won't do any adjusting beyond simple leveling.  If the range between the characters abilities is small then it will likely be only the weaker ones that will be pulled up to the more powerful ones.  However if some are way over-powered and out of balance, then those ones will toned down and the weaker ones brought up to a middle point.  But again, this will be based on the specifics of each character as well as the overall range of the characters relative to one another.

As someone who has created literally thousands of characters and NPC's over the years due to the extensive development of my Channel Cities/World of Aernth setting that the modules I wrote for the Guild Companion and that I hope to eventually produce more material from if time permits in the future, these adjustments should not take too long and I realize that sometimes in certain situations a character may seem very powerful in certain situations due to a particular set of skills being very heavily developed and others are not vs. a character that is much more well-rounded and thus has good skills in many areas but is not fantastic in any can still be balanced simply due to the flexibility that the second character mentioned will have vs. the first character mentioned.  But ultimately they will be fairly well balanced.

Taibhsa - did you want character sketches here? (A shorter version of the info I sent you, for general consumption...)

Maybe it would be better for me to get organized with the admins and have a separate thread started for the actual game and have such things placed there.  But if you want to place such info here that should be fine for now and we can move it later once the threads for the game are actually set up.

No problemo on waiting. I will look for the new Folder to pop up.

Indeed. Lets keep this thread for recruiting and interest.

Character development can go into the dedicated game board, otherwise it gets too cluttered.

Taibhsa, can you give me a game name and a blurb (it can be brief) and I'll set you up a board.
Look at me still talking when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me glad I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.....on the people who are still alive.

Does this mean the player characters will begin in Bree?
If so I'll include in my character background why he happens to be in Bree at the time.
Or can we assume our character has heard similar announcements in other places and thus travelled to Bree?

Either way is fine.  You can start in Bree, or can travel there after hearing about it from travelers, as the anouncement will be spread throughout the local lands and villages.

Yes me.  :wizi:
I have no idea what rules you are talking of. I'm a noob to online role playing gaming (except for this java one), but I heard misty mountain cold once...

Can I play too?

Being someone else's lackey, sitting around and taking orders doesn't appeal to me -- to whom would it?  But adventure sounds fun.  Fame and fortune might be nice.

I don't have much experience or know the rules, and I've never PbP'd before.  I'm new here.

I GM'd MERP when I was a kid, but that was... wow! over 20 years ago.  Always wanted to play RoleMaster though.  Actually I came here interested in making computer programs for character management, game engine aids, etc.  And a nostalgia for Middle Earth -- I'm reading LOTR to my wife and she was an avowed hater who couldn't sit through the movies.

I don't have a lot of time but could probably eek out an hour a day for action (weekdays only) and be sure of a post most days.

I'd like to play an Easterling.  Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  Warrior by trade, rogue in temperament.  Shorter & slimmer than you big bungling Westrons, I can relate a bit to hobbits.   Trying to affect western manners and morals, but with a chip on my shoulder, and a cruel, even sadistic, streak that sometimes comes out.  Hey, it's how I was raised.  No love of orcs or trolls though.  Weapons: spear, sling, knives, a tomahawk -- anything I can throw.

A gambler, risk taker, and generally lighthearted.  A grin that sometimes looks like a sneer, but the ladies here like my olive complexion & silver tongue.  Quick witted, prankster, insincere.  I can lay it on thick so everyone but the object of my faux fawning can tell I'm mocking.  Not evil, just cynical, but trying to build a new start.  I realize the blessings civilization brings, I'm just not good at it yet, and the sarcastic veneer is just a cover & some old habits that die hard.  I tell myself.

Hello all,

New member to the board.  Are you still taking new players?  Have a good number of RMSS books and been wanting to play.
