As the easterling and undead horsemen charge the gate, the archers on top fire a salvo of arrows. One of the easterling warriors goes down.

Meanwhile, inside falco sneaks up on the officer, turns visible and stabs him twice. The officer is able to deflect a fatal wound, but is cut seriously and severely bleeding. Two of the 6 soldiers come running, but by then flaco has disappeared again. The officer shouts at the men to return to the gate...the men dutifully return. The officer sits up and starts performing first aid on bimself, while ordering the men to get ready for impact.

Auris keeps sending his raised troops to the gate. He is long past the point where it would be done cleanly, without loose ends. If the horsemen get there first, fine, the first one will be ordered to ram the door, undead horse and rider and all. The footsoldiers are to follow, again applying physical weight if needed. Remaining horsemen will keep back to add their weight and strength, or more likely, run down fugitives from the fort or charge inside.

Either way, the command is: "Kill them all, leave no Gondorian alive!"

The Easterling horsmen hold in, but the undead horsemen and horses know no fear and charge full speed into the gate. They crash open the gate, throwing the 6 soldiers behind it backwards.

This does utterly destroy three undead horsemen and their steeds due to the impact. They send bones flying all over the place.

Seeing the gate breached, the Easterling cavalry follows suit. It is then over very soon. 1 Easterling soldier is killed by an arrow and several are wounded, but the six soldiers and 4 archers are no match for the undead and easterling warriors.

The fortress is yours!

Meanwhile, the first cows start to appear at the road leading up to the fort. Seems the “cavalry” finally arrived

Ooc: dropping out of combat rounds...let me know what you want to do. All the Gondorians are dead per Auris’ demand. You can give chase to the fleeing Gondorian horsemen, but given the time advantage, it’s unlikely you will be able to catch without some tracking being involved...if at all

Nameless

Will do the following:
 • Take careful note of which Easterlings fought well and/or followed orders
 • Dispatch (command via horn) the cows to chase the Gondorians except
 • Keep one or two cows back for a celebratory feast

All the Easterlings followed orders well...there was some confusion on the hilltop with orders going back and forth, leading some of the Easterlings to retreat, which made Auris unhappy...however, they were following Jylnath’s orders. And rallied quickly when ordered to attack again.

In terms of combat prowress none really stood out, but in the end they only had to run down the enemy. The easterlings that captured the tower with the archers, perhaps had the most difficulty. You could also choose to honour the dead instead.

As the cows are not hunting dogs, they will dutifully run in a certain direction, but will quickly lose the Gondorians on horseback. Keeping one or two calves behind is possible (I think fresh mature cow meat is not very tender...needs to rot/mature for a few days first)

** Calves it is then, if there are any. Veal anyone?

Nameless

Calls out, "Which of you can cook? Start a fire and let's celebrate, honor the dead, or whatever you do for your fallen. Auris, do you want to have your dead bury themselves? Efficient eh?"

Two Easterlings volunteer to prepare the feast and start preparing the veal over a hot fire.

Others start collecting their comrades and give them a proper burial. After which a proper looting commences on the fort.

One of the Easterlings approach Nameless and Auris and asks: “Sirs, should we send a rider to high command to let them know we captured the fort?...Also what do we do with the ahem ‘auxiliary soldiers’? Some of the men feel very uncomfortable being near undead Gondorians”

Auris

He is not too happy with the cavalier attitude of some of his senior subordinates. Feasting is nice, but the action was in a sense a mess. He'll do an after-action report while in the saddle. Meanwhile, his enlisted men fought well enough, so there's no reason to take it out on them. Within reason.

"Men! We scored a glorious victory, now eat and gather the spoils, but do so quickly. In an hour we're in the saddle again! No exceptions!"

Having put the men on notice, he turns to the man who approached him. "Auxiliaries. That's a good term. We'll keep using it" he smiles wryly at the man, who of course didn't hope for that "but these served their purpose. I'll deal with it." He commands all undead to gather on the far side of the fort and lets them wait there. Meanwhile, while his men finish eating and looting Auris writes a small note. When done, he quickly takes a decent chunk of veal. Fighting does make hungry, and for a hobbit doubly so. It almost reminds him of the second breakfasts at home, long ago.

When the hour is up, and his men are mounted, the easterlings get to watch a nice show. Auris will command the 'auxiliaries'  first to crash into the remaining back wall of the fort, expecting them to shatter just like the cavalry. They get to do this three times, so the easterlings can bet on how many survive. Auris will instignate this with a casual remark to Nameless after the first charge: "Let's do that two more times. How much would you bet that no more than 2 are left by then?"

And any surviving undead, if any survive running at full speed into a brick wall at all, will be on foot, so even if they wander off a bit after Auris is out of control range, they could hardly overtake the mounted easterlings. Out of sight, out of mind.

Auris commands everyone to ride back to the host, at a decent pace. However, he'll charge the most timid easterling sargeant to ride ahead, as fast as he can, with the following message he wrote earlier:

From: Auris, commanding special forces.
To: commander of the host

Sir,

The fort has been taken, but dire news regarding your main concern requires a personal briefing.  The fact that I will not commit the details in writing should give an indication of the kind of danger we're dealing with.

regards,
Auris.

The zombies do dutily as commanded. The horsemen splatter spectacularly into the wall, but the infantry zombies have a hard time killing themselves by running into the wall. They’re all pretty much wounded and staggering, but that only makes it harder to kill themselves. Allmost all survive, but will definitely not be able to follow.

Most of the men seem to enjoy the spectacle, but others deem it to gruesome to watch.

@Falco and Jylnath: anywhere specific you’re going to loot?

Jylnath

The Easterling will look into the captain's quarters and then the officers' rooms for valuables.

Says to Auris, "Our industrious comrades seem to be fond of treasure hunting eh? What are your feelings on loot? Free-for-all? Do we wish or want to establish a company treasury? Or for that matter, a charter? I wonder what our 'leaders' expect?"

Jylnath quickly plunders the officer’s houses. He’s in competition with several other Easterlings. He finds a bag of coin in the captain’s house. 10gp in total. The other houses were already plucked clean.

Falco finds a collection of maps of the area and a book, that on further inspection seems to be some sort of spell book. It seems to detail a certain number of spells regarding manipulating the elements.
