Ok. I'm not ready for characters yet, but I am going to start developing things in here.

Was anyone thinking about playing a mutated animal?

What were the standard choices from GW?

Pure Strain Human... easy enough. They looked like us and it tended to make it easier for them to recruit followers. In game terms I would say that they automatically begin with 5 points in Appearance. I also think there is some advantage that involves leading people. I will have to look it up. It was also easier for them to get Robots and AI's to follow their commands. And automatic medical aid worked on them, sometimes not on the others. Different drugs also helped them that may cause a bad reaction in Mutants.
Mutated Human..... also easy. They tended to have some interesting powers, but they could also have some nasty disabilities. Believe it or not they almost seemed to be the norm in Gamma World.
Mutated Animals...... pick an animal and make it a mutant. We would have to work through that but I've got enough sourcebooks to make it work. I just think it will be back and forth to get what the players want.
Now NPC's could also be Robots, Androids, AI's and Mutated Plants. The plants tended to not be as bright as the animals, so best for NPC's.

How could you play GW and not go for a mutation?

I tended to play Pure Strain Humans, as I liked getting all the nifty tech crap that blew things up real nice. Also I used the rules from the first module Famine in Far Go that made PSH a better type to play. It gave them 4d6 for Intelligence, Charisma and Health, rather then the 3d6 everyone else got.

Nice. There should be an incentive to play a straight up human.

I figure on working that in. The higher attractiveness and the ability to pick up followers. As well as the robot's obeying thing.
I was thinking about making them have a higher HT and IQ too. Rationalized by mutants being more fragile. I think I need to actually put together a race for Pure Strain Human with it's advantages and disadvantages to make this workable.
I was tending towards 150 point characters with 50 points of disadvantages possible for PSH, 100 disadvantages available for Mutants and 150 for mutated animals.

Higher INT and IQ makes sense. Mapping out the basics would help.

Oh, you can be whatever you want. It really doesn't matter how many are of what kind. Just figure out what speaks to you.

That will work. I was looking at a base of 150 with max disadvantages for mutant animals of 150. See what you come up with and we will test how viable that is.
