New Board called "Conventions & Conferences"
« on: May 10, 2014, 12:51:26 AM »
It would be helpful to have a Conventions and Conferences board.  This would be a place where people looking for GMs to host games at a Convention could post.  Having a specific location allows those GMs who are looking to attend a convention easy access to finding those conventions.  I would say that it could be broken down by Nation/State.  This would also allow GMs to easily search conventions.

Most GMs are not interested in flying 1800 miles to host a game.  Although, some are.  So, having it by region makes it easy to search.

Also, the conventions could put a date as to when it will occur.   That way the GMs would know if it has happened or not.

Thank you,

Texicon

A question to our members, would anyone find this idea useful?

Some of us here go to and run conventions, I'd like to hear from them.
Look at me still talking when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me glad I'm not you.
I've experiments to run, there is research to be done

I would too.  It would be insightful to hear what the community says.

I help/run/organise two conventions here in the UK.

www.conceptionuk.org (late January)

and

www.indiecon.net (Early November)

Both are at the same venue.

So, would you find it useful to have a separate board where you could post that you were looking for GMs?

Maybe the subject could start with the country and or the city/area.

e.g. UK/Suffolk: GMs wanted - Into the Vale Con www. valecon. com

or some such thing.  (Note: that was a mock email address)

Mine would be USA/North Texas/Grapevine: GMs Wanted - blah blah blah
That is Country/State/City

To be honest, Conception is now usually fully booked within 10 seconds. (yep, you read that right! :) ). We ran over 400 table-top games (over 5 days) last year... We don't have a shortage of GM's/players... but we wouldn't exactly turn away volunteers either. Conception is run for charitable purposes... well over £150,000 in the 15 years that it has been running. Runs from Weds-Sun, 3 gaming slots per day.

Indiecon, is a strange beast, it encourages newer indie-style games (homebrews, freeform, GM'less etc) with some of the "Old favourites" thrown into the mix. Primarily run for the benefit of the small-press game-designers who attend. Definitely more casual and relaxed a shorter event (Friday-Sun).

Basically, it wouldn't hurt ;)

That is fabulous.  Our con has some issues with finding GMs.  We are able to fill it with GMs but it's difficult.  I also want variety, which makes it more difficult.

So, I take it that is two votes for a board for conventions to find GMs.
