Ground Floor Plan, Last Inn Stables.  Not shown:  Hayloft: a wide area above the stables above the six stalls running from the north edge of the layout down to the corner grooms' apartments.  Those apartments also serve as workshops as well as tool and tack rooms.

There are trapdoors leading down from the hayloft to each of the stalls, and the shingled gambrel-roof is supported by wooden beams.  There are broad windows secured with closed shutters barred on the inside.

The outer wall construction is stone, the same as the Inn..  A lantern hangs from a wooden beam, and warmth is provided by the chimney from the lower grooms' apartment, which has a vent outlet in the southeast corner of the hayloft.  Access to the hayloft is by ladder through the trapdoor to the northernmost stall.  The stables are completely filled to capacity with horses and ponies.

A pair of grooms is present at all times on the lower floor.  The hearth is kept burning in the corner room, and the stables are warm and clean.

Most of the floor of the hayloft is occupied by many bales of hay, bags of oats, and barrels of wrinkled apples, laid up for the winter.  There is also a large barrel of winter cider and a metal cup.  Large quantities of dried sausage and other comestibles hang from the beams.  The long room is snug and dry, for the roof is in excellent repair.  By the request of Jorg, the Hobbits have removed the furs by the heat-vent and replaced them with warm woolen blankets and fabric bolsters.
