Hairy: Aliens und der Furher
« on: February 03, 2017, 11:57:43 PM »
As Hairy moves along the length of the magazine store, something
shifts in the air around him.  Some barrier has formed in the space
around him and he can see the bodies of Apone and Dilly unmoving on
the floor infront of him.  He spins around to see what is behind him,
as he does a hand reaches up and grabs the barrel of his MLA rifle.
"Careful with that!" says a familiar voice - Eyebrows Inmotion
stands before him.  Shock holds Hairy in his place for his mentor is
much older than the last time he saw him and his face and armour have
terrible scars, burns and worse.  Some cybernetics have been grafted
onto him and his voice has actually come from a speaker at his throat.
"I need your help Hairy!  Red or Green it is your choice!" he
gestures downwards and Hairy understands.  The floor beneath them has
been bisected, one half red and one green.  Hairy looks back at
Eyebrows, but he has gone. A number appears in each half of the circle.
     "5" ... then a second later ... "4" ....

Not much to go on, but assuming no tricky double bluff, assuming there is no history between me and my old mentor about colour choice and the usual danger/safe colouring applies, then I will take the green one.

A white oblivion envelops you and all sensation ceases. You pass out!

[Incidentally pressing the red button wouldn't have killed you]

Your drift in and out of conciousness for some little time, you have
vague impressions of being prodded, birth, childhood, darknoess, and
puberty - the unconcious mind plays tricks on us doesn't it?

You regain a fuzzy sort of conciousness lying on a in a blank,
featureless hospital room with a mirror to your left in which you can
see your naked body.  The wounds are still fresh on it.  A brief systems
check indicates you are however feeling fine.

Examine mirror. Check for faint hints of pixellation etc. that may indicate I am in a computer generated environment.

Is gravity normal? Listen. Smell.

Can I tell from thirst/hunger how long has passed?

Find clothes. Find treatment for wounds.

Explore.

[I think pixellation 500 years or so from now will be unnoticeable considering the reported performance of the iPAD3.]

In fact as you rise you notice that the image that you assumed was a mirror doesn't move with you.  In fact with the movement you notice that there are no wounds on your body at all - even ancient minor scars have left no evidence of ever being.  The same can not be said of the other "image" of you.

Gravity is normal, there is the faint background humm of machinery - normal on a spaceship/station.  You are not hungry, and are notespecially thirsty but your mouth is dry.

Your room is a clean hospital room, all decked out in white.  It is approximately 5m on each side including the other side of the transparent wall that separates the two "yous".  Along your long wall is an obvious one way observation window.  To the side of this is a locked door, the same functional white as the rest of the room.  There is a utilitarian locker containing some fresh military fatigues, but nothing else.

There is a hum in the air and a breif discharge or energy.  For a moment you are paralyzed, and a robotic arm swings down from an unseen recess in the ceiling and sweeps you once from head to foot and back and then returns to its recess.  After which you can move again.

Whilst paralysed was it a forcefield holding me still or a subtle block on my ability to conciously move whilst still allowing me to breathe and balance?

Put on clothes. Explore some more. Try and dismantle something blunt and heavy or sharp. Scratch my arm and see if it bleeds. See if my reflection shows the same injury. I am still testing the idea that i am in a virtual environment.

It was definitely a field effect but its effect was more subtle than a
simple stun blast - it was a gentle tingling caress.

Now fully clothed you attempt some minor self harm - you heavily
scratch the back of your hand but no matching mark appears on your twin.

As you stare at him - a gentle hum behind you signals the door opening.

You turn expecting to see someone at the door but the doorway and the
corridor beyond is empty.  The corridor is a style similar to the room
you are in - disinfected pristine hospital white made harsher by the
unsympathetic lighting.  You can see two doors, the one on the right -
about a third of the way down the corridor - is closed, but at the end
of the corridor is another open door.  The lights are on in the end room.
