Lahwi-Addu

will attack J5. The Amorite was worried that the lycanthropes' disease could be transmitted. (What does he know about that, Enheduanna? I'll postpone my attack pending this information.) Lahwi-Addu also asked, "Murdus, do you know whether these beasts are contagious?"

Yarlaganda

forces himself to stop chuckling as the werejackals begin to work free of the mud and begin their charge.

"A beast on two legs is still a beast!" he calls to his comrades. "Let us strike them down like the curs they are!"

As the lycanthropes close, Yarlaganda readies himslef behind his shield and roars. When J3 gets in range, he will attack him with his sword.

DW: I feel like Demon/Devil Lore or Religion Lore are probably most appropriate, unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Of course, you could always ask the astrologer for more information about his original comment, if he’ll tell you.

Klumenos

Klumenos will impose his shield between himself and the beast-man, the strike the creature with his sword (Kopis/scimitar).  He reserves 30% for parry.

Lahwi-Addu

will try his religion lore. Just for nothing he'll ask the Astrologer, "Friend, do you know whether these beasts are contagious? Have you met them before?"

The Rest of Round 3
Oh, the ups and downs!

— —

Lahwi-Addu recalls his religious instruction at the Temple of Šamaš.
Roll 66 +40 Skill Bonus = UM 66!
Result: Unusual Event!

The paladin is absolutely certain that he remembers the lesson where he learned that skin-changers such as these were great, holy warriors, blessed by the gods!  But why then are they attacking you?  You become more confused at the astrologer’s response to your question.

“Disease!” he shouts, “It’s a disease, like mešgûm" (OB. “rabies”).

— —

Murdus attempts to retrieve Klumenos’s bow.
Roll -52 + 29 Skill = -23
Result: Absolute Failure.

Murdus almost loses his spear attempting to retrieve the bow.  It slides further down into the ditch, making it more difficult to retrieve.  -20 to your next attempt.

— —

Yarlaganda attacks J3.
Roll 86 +81 Skill -30 to Parry +15 Sword +10 Deliberate -50 DB - 20 Adrenal Defense = 92.
Result: 10 Hits, “A” Crit.
Crit Roll: 53
Result: +2 Hits, foe must parry 1 round at -25 penalty, 1 hits of bleed per round.  Strike to Chest.

Despite the werejackal's deft movements the Gutian deals him a slash across his chest, causing him to stumble.

— —

Klumenos attacks J1.
Roll 191 +114 Skill -30 to Parry +15 Sword +10 Deliberate -7 Move -50 DB -20 Adrenal Defense = 223.
Result: 25 Hits, “E” Crit.
Crit. Roll: 1
Result: +3 Hits.

The Minoan inflicts a mighty blow against the werejackal, but the beast miraculously manages to survive…for now.

— —

Lahwi-Addu attacks J5
Roll 74 +120 OB -60 to Parry +15 Axe +10 Deliberate  -50 DB - 20 Adrenal Defense = 89.
Result: 8 Hits.

As the paladin attempts to strike at the werejackal, he’s fascinated by the way the creature uses his hands and body to deflect his stroke.  It shouldn’t be possible, but the unarmed beast did it, and takes only a minor wound.

— —

Indattu-Inšušinak attempts to spring upon J1.
Ambush Roll 53 + 115 Skill = 168
Result: Absolute Success!  +31 to his Crit.
Attack Roll 86 + 89 OB +15 Dagger +10 Deliberate -50 DB - 20 Adrenal Defense = 130
Result: 12 Hits, “D” Crit.
Crit. Roll: 85 + 31 Bonus = 116.
Result: Your enters the werebeast's brain.

For a moment, it appears that the shifty werejackal is a match for the thief.  But no, with the skill of a practiced assassin, the Elamite springs on his foe and stabs him in the head.  He’s dead.

— —

J5 attempt to sweep (tier I) Lahwi-Addu!
Roll 68 + 66 Skill -33 Movement -60 Foe’s Parry -10 Armor -32 DB = 43
Result: Miss!

The werebeast’s movement isn’t the only thing that’s fascinating about his combat style.  He just attempted to sweep the paladin’s legs out from under him, but failed.

— —

The celestial scorpion tries to catch J3 in his pincers.
Roll 65 + 60 OB -50 DB - 20 Adrenal Defense = 55.
Result: Miss!

The magical scorpion attacks the werebeast Yarlaganda injured, but misses.

— —

Round 3 ends with J1’s death.  Round 4 declarations, initiative rolls, and attacks?

(:wizi:  I suspect DW may know where I got the idea of werebeast monks.)

Edit:  Forgot about the scorpion.  Added him in.

Edit 2:  A note about Adrenal Defense.  The RMSS Martial Arts Companion says that a character has to use 40% of their activity to use Adrenal Defense.  But all of the official material I can find for RMFRP is silent on this issue, and instead appears to say that the skill bonus is applied directly to the character's DB, without them having to spend activity or roll.  This is the way I'm playing it here, that it's automatic and doesn't cost activity.

Yep!  I think that was before I joined the party, but between them, and the werelion in Shadow in the South, I've always wanted to use lycanthrope monks.

Yes, they're very cool. There's an adventure by Necromancer Games that uses a weretiger on its cover that might be very nice. It's called Coils of Set.

Round 4
Initiative Order
26 Scorpion
23 Lahwi-Addu
21 Klumenos
21 Yarlaganda
17 Indattu-Inšušinak
10 Werejackals

Enemy Declarations
J2 will move into J1’s place and attack Indattu
J3 must parry at -25 this round
J4 will attempt Disarm on Lahwi-Addu
J5 will attempt another sweep
J6 will attempt to change
J7 will move in and attack Klumenos

Snap & Normal Phases
Klumenos moves 5 feet to position himself to strike at J3

J2 still has 3 feet of ditch to clear.  His MM roll is 10+40 = 50; result: 30% movement.  It takes 5% of his round to clear the ditch.  He has to cross the remaining 62 feet during the normal phase, which he will accomplish using another 27% of his round.  His attack this round will suffer a -32 modifier.

J7 moves 55 feet.  This takes 22% of his round, and his attack will suffer a -22 penalty.

Positions at the Beginning of Deliberate

Just X:  J7 has moved in behind you.  Would you like to attack J7 instead?

Kantron:  I assume J2 is your target?  I don't think this round will go well for him.

GB:  Still fishing for bows?

Once I have your answers, I'll adjudicate the Deliberate Phase of Round 4.

Lahwi-Addu

is facing two foes this round; I'll run the gambit; 25% of parry for each and attack on J5. "I shout to J5 with as much majesty and honesty as possible, "Why are you attacking us?"

Klumenos shouts out, "Yarlagands, are you good with this one before you?  I have another behind me."  He will then pivot and attack J7 for round 4.

Deliberate Phase, Round 4
1.  The summoned scorpion attacks J7 to protect Yarlaganda’s flank:
Roll 40 + 60 OB +10 Deliberate -50 DB = 60
Result:  Miss!

2.  Lahwi-Addu attacks J5:
Roll 37 + 60 OBAP* +15 Axe +10 Deliberate - 50 DB -20 Adrenal Defense = 52
*=Offense Bonus After Parry
Result:  Miss!

3.  Klumenos attacks J7:
Roll 70 + 84 OBAP +15 Sword +10 Deliberate -7 Movement -50 DB -20 Adrenal Defense = 110
Result:  13 Hits + “B” Critical.
Crit. Roll: 13
Result: +3 Hits, you gain Initiative over J7 next round.

4.  Yarlaganda attacks J4:
Roll -82* + 76 + 15 Sword + 10 Deliberate -50 DB -20 Adrenal Defense = -51
Result:  Miss!
*(The fumble range on a Short Sword is 01-02 UM, so I used your “Fumble Roll” as the Low OE Roll)

5.  Indattu attacks J2:
Ambush Roll 68 + 115 Skill = 183
Result: Absolute Success! +31 to Crit.
Attack Roll: 72 + 89 OB + 15 Dagger +10 Deliberate -50 DB -20 Adrenal Defense = 116
Result: 10 Hits, “B” Critical.
Crit. Roll 83 + 31 = 114
Result: Strike through the eye, instant death.  The thief is on a roll!  +10 to all allies next round.

6.  J2 collapses along side the body of J1, as Indattu wrests his dagger blade from the creature’s eye socket.

7.  J3 must parry this round.

8.  J4 attempts to disarm Lahwi-Addu.
Roll 50 + 57 Skill = 107
Result: Partial Success.
J4 almost, almost succeeds in forcing the paladin’s axe from his hand.  But close isn’t enough, and Lahwi keeps his axe.  J4 will have +10 on his next attempt.

9.  J5 attempts to sweep (or throw) Lahwi-Addu.
Roll 54 + 66 OB +10 Deliberate -30 Foe’s Parry -10 Armor -32 DB = 58
Result: Miss!

10.  J6 Attempts Control Lycanthropy to force change into his were-form:
Roll 56 + 45 Skill +10 Deliberate -50 Daylight = 61
Result:  At last, J6 changes.

11.  J7 attempt to sweep Klumenos
Roll 89 + 66 OB +10 Deliberate -22 Move Penalty -30 Foe’s Parry -10 Armor -32 DB -20 Shield = 51
Result: Miss!

12. Murdus goes “fishing.”
Roll: 20 + 29 Skill -20 Last Failure = -29
Result: Spectacular Failure.  -20 penalty for next two rounds.

Roll: 20 + 29 Skill -20 Last Failure = 29
Result: Failure.

— —
Narrative
The werejackals move in as J6 finally forces his affliction.  The summoned scorpion, Yarlaganda, and Lawhi-Addu fail to score hits, but Klumenos slashes J7.  Indattu-Inšušinak adds another body to his kill count.

The werejackals' attacks are ineffective this round, but J4 almost disarms the paladin.  In response to Lahwi's question, J5 half-shouts, half-growls, "No witnesses!"

— —

In Round 5, J6 will move towards you.  J4 will attempt another disarm, while J7 will step back 5 feet to avoid being flanked by Klumenos and Indattu, and attack Indattu.  J5 will attack Lahwi, and J3 will attack Yarlaganda.

In the stress of the moment, is distracted by a passing imaginary abacus... ;)

----------------------

OOC: Might want to check your addition there.. ;)

I make it 29... still a failure, but just a failure.
