Yes, sorry Enheduanna, it seems that I rolled twice, and a darn good roll it was to waste.

Klumenos

Klumenos uses his shield for defense and switches from his spear to his short sword/Kopris.  I might not get a chance to attack this round but I am far better with the Kopis than the spear, so hopefully it will more than makeup for it next round.

Roll 86 + 42 spell -10 Rushed Casting = 118
Result (on Basic Spell Attack Table) -125 to Harpy’s RR
Harpy 5’s RR:  Roll 55 -125 Attack Mod = -70

Lahwi-Addu

“Lamaštum!” the Amorite exclaimed in distress. He looked at the Astrologer's face to see his reaction. (The paladin will make a religion check to help determine if the demoness is directly involved in this affair.)

Klumenos

Hearing the astrologers chant and seeing the look of fear in the eyes of the Harpy and having seem similar effect with the Jacklewares, Klumenos decides on a risky tactic.  He grabs for the Harpy's chicken leg.

Round Six, Against the Harpies
Initiative Order
25. Klumenos
24. Indattu-Inšušinak
22. Lahmum
21. Yarlaganda
10 Harpies
0. Murdus
0. Lahwi-Addu
0. Nur-ili

Klumenos attempts to grab the frightened harpy
(OOC:  I’m going to treat this as Tackling, since that’s the closest analogue to what you’re attempting.  This is a Martial Arts - Striking skill.  Klumenos’s category bonus is 33, but he has no ranks in Tackling, so with the -15 penalty, that’s a +18)
Roll 70 + 18 OB +10 Deliberate -40 DB = 58
Result:  Miss!
Narrative:  The Minoan makes a desperate grab for the harpy’s leg, but she slips through his grasp.

Indattu attacks harpy 9.
Ambush Roll 72 + 115 Skill = 187
Result: Absolute Success! +31 to Crit.
Attack Roll: 83 + 89 OB + 15 Dagger +10 Deliberate -40 DB = 157
Result: 13 Hts, “E” Puncture Critical
Crit. Roll 21 + 31 = 52
Result:  +5 Hits, 1 round Stun, 1 round No Parry, -10 Penalty
Narrative:  The assassin strikes harpy 9’s leg, and she dies of hits.

The Lahmum attacks H3.
Roll 105 + 90 OB + 10 Deliberate -40 DB = 165
Result: 28 Hits, “BP” Critical
Crit. Roll: 45
Result:  +2 Hits, 1 bleed.
Narrative:  With a yelp, the hairy humanoid take a bite out of the harpy’s arm.

Yarlaganda attacks Harpy 2
Roll 31 +81 Skill +15 Sword +10 Deliberate -40 DB = 97
Result: 11 Hits, “B” Slash Critical
Crit. Roll:  18
Result: +2 Hits, +1 Round Must Parry, -10 Penalty
Narrative: The Gutian carves another slice off of the harpy.  She’s not enjoying this.

Harpy 2 is stunned, and badly wounded.

Harpy 3 lashes out at the Lahmum:
Roll 44 +30 OB +10 Deliberate -30 DB = 54
Result: Miss!

Harpy 5 takes flight and flees.  She’ll be 270 feet away from you by the start of next round.

Murdus takes his spear up.  The dim, diffuse light of the underworld partially lights the room on the other side of the portal.  It appears to be another large inner gate chamber, much like the one the party passed through to find the stairway.  It seems similarly devoid of anything of note.

Lahwi-Addu wonders at the presence of the demoness Lamaštum:
Roll 65 + 41 Skill +20 Easy = 126
Result:  Absolute Success
Narrative:  The paladin takes a moment to consider the harpies.  Could their “mother” be present here?  You’re doubtful.  While she might be a mother to demonic creatures such as these, Lamaštum is a solitary presence, and you can’t recall any instance where she’s been preceded or accompanied by minions such as these.  Even her connection to the underworld is tenuous; the demoness hates mankind, and preys upon the world of the living.  She’s most frequently encountered in the wastes, or at lonely, uncharted springs, or at crossroads in the middle of the night.  You can breathe a sigh of relief.

Nur-ili feels that he has done his part in this conflict, and chooses to save his energies for later.

Klumenos

Kluemnos curses his luck, figuring given their location better than than any godHe hates to think that the harpy will get away, to warn whoever it is she will, but knows that she would be out of bow range by the time he changed weapons again.  Looking at the departing harpy, and seeing that Yarlaganda and his summoned friend appear to have the situation under control, he says, "Nur-Ili, how close is your hidden treasure, it appears our presence here is known and therefore, I would like to depart as quickly as possible."

Round Seven, Against the Harpies
Initiative Order
25. Lahmum
24. Yarlaganda
22. Lahwi-Addu
13 Harpies

The Lahmum attacks H3.
Roll 92 + 90 OB + 10 Deliberate -40 DB = 152
Result: 23 Hits, “DP” Critical
Crit. Roll: 90
Result:  +9 Hits, dead from concussion hits.
With a bark, the feral demon tears a hunk out of the skinny harpy’s side.  She looked like she was going to flee, but never had the chance.

Yarlaganda attacks Harpy 2
Roll 51 +81 Skill +15 Sword +10 Deliberate -40 DB = 117
Result: 15 Hits, “C” Slash Critical
Crit. Roll: 5
Result:  +1 Hits; Death from concussion damage.
With a swat from his sword, the Gutian ends the fight.

— —

In response to Klumenos’s question, Nur-ili stammers, “In-inside.  Past the gate chamber, there’s two chambers, then a hallway.  There’s a kind of archive off of the hallway.  I stashed it there.”

The fleeing harpy wings her way away from the party.  Her course carries her around the edge of the ziqqurat, and out of sight.  The scenery around you remains unchanged.  For a moment, it is eerily quiet, then the silence is broken by the Lahmum beginning to devour the remains of his kill.

Yarlaganda

makes the proper gestures of gratitute for Mother Desert, who has graciously heeded his call once again.

“You have our thanks, oh ancient and fierce one,” he says to the Lahmum, head inclined in respect. He’ll search his own kill for anything of use, then drag the corpse over to the Lahmum.

He’ll then make scratches in the dirt to release the Lahmum from the spot, so it may leave when it wishes. Then he’ll rejoin the group.

When Yarlaganda drags the corpse over to the Lahmum, the demon looks up for a moment and yelps, as if to show his gratitude.  He’ll finish devouring his kill, and then move on to the body the Gutian brought him.

Peering into the doorway by the light of his lamp, Klumenos confirms that the doorway is empty, and that there’s a larger room beyond.  The bricks of the floor appear to have once been covered by a yellow lacquer, but it’s peeling and faded, much like the red-lacquered bricks the party encountered in the first set of rooms.

The astrologer surveys the world “outside” of the doorway, and stares up at vaguely luminous clouds far above.  He seems to shiver.  “I don’t like not being able to see the sky,” he says.  “Can we move on?”

Yarlaganda

also feels uneasy. And he feels the absence of his bonded steed actutely. It is not right, being this far from Gamesh for this long.

But he does not complain, like the astrologer. He rejoins the group and peers over their shoulders into the room inside. He’ll follow them, bringing up the rear and keeping watchful for attacks from behind.
