A couple of things.
1) Since you don't have any ranks in the Attunement skill, it's -15 + your category bonus. So you only get +1.
2) I'm using
School of Hard Knocks
, and you get a +10 because you share a realm with the spells cast on the item.
3) So your final score is 95, which is enough to learn what spells the item uses, per:
Results in the Story thread.
Just X:
88 could work.
Roll 88 + 7 Forgery Skill = 95
Result: Depends. You need a final score of 111 for an unmitigated success. Take a look at the following from
School of Hard Knocks
:
So, if you don't want to have to roll again, you can be satisfied with an Easy Forgery Maneuver (+20; final score 115). It'll satisfy someone who's never actually seen the real thing, has nothing to compare it with and has only had the item described to them. If instead you want to go for Light Forgery Maneuver (+10; final score 105), you'll have to roll again at +10. If you succeed at the Light Forgery attempt, you'll be able to fool someone who has had an opportunity to see the item before, but not inspect it closely. You're welcome to try harder difficulties.

Thanks for the table, Enheduanna. In the second version you made of my Paladin you gave me +14 in Power Awareness (attached below), but even with the +10 bonus for the same realm I miss by a +1! Argh! I'll try again with a +10 bonus.

So I started to re-adjudicate this, and I'm not sure I understand your math DW.
+14 in Power Awareness, -15 for unlearned skill, +10 for same realm, +84 for the original roll = 93. You still get a Near Success and know the spell.
It's a constant effect, so you don't have to "use" it to activate it.
