I love the RM M&M table.. it's exciting! (and risky).

It worked out well for him, but I'd mention at this point that, as a player I'd have taken a "safer" statistical approach with regard to the pace Murdus used. As a GM I may not have even allowed him to dash due to the perceived bulk/encumbrance.. to be honest, I'd have probably gone with a Run or Sprint.

Statistically, Dash is actually FAR more risky, and has a far lower chance of achieving it's possible distance covered than if choosing even a slightly slower pace, especially when the character isn't trained to any great degree in sprinting (especially if exhaustion is taken into account). In fact, in my experience, the additional risk tends to make it an "all or nothing" affair... The 92 did help though, a rare occurrence for Murdus... ;)

For purposes of demonstration, an example..

At a walk he would make 100 in two rounds, or 200ft at a run. This assumes no M/M roll, but that's boring, I'd insist on at least a M/M (routine) for a Run due to circumstances.

(You'd quoted his skill as -13?... his default with Athletic/Endurance skills is +2 (but I don't know if you've taken encumbrance into account, -15 seems about right, so that's fine)

But for my example I'll use +2, it's easier on the maths...  ;)

52+2 (54)= run (routine) 100% (100ft), sprint (easy) 80% (120ft), f/sprint (light) 70% (140ft), Dash (Medium) 30% (75ft)
92+2 (94)= run (routine) 100% (100ft), sprint (easy) 100% (150ft), f/sprint (light) 100% (200ft), Dash (Medium) 70% (175ft)

So, 2 rounds of movement, run (200ft), Sprint (270ft), f/sprint (340ft) with Dash (250ft)... actually 120 ft less than a Fast Sprint

The real kicker however, comes with the exhaustion.. Murdus would've lost 50 points in the first round, compared to 6 of Fast run.

Basically, he'd be totally exhausted after 2 rounds!

  All of this is exactly right, and I'll keep it in mind in the future!  I'm not sure that I've ever played a character who's moved at a Dash before, especially for more than a round.

Exhaustion Points are a beast to keep track of (when you're keeping track of everything else), but you're precisely correct.  I kind of figured that your characters would reach the door before they did (since I didn't examine the numbers too closely before just jumping in feet first), so I didn't even consider exhaustion or a slower pace until it was too late.

With respect to Murdus's sprinting skill, I assumed -15 + your category modifier because you don't have any ranks in that specific skill.

:)  It's a "hidden" strategy I've always had when building characters ;)

.... he's got a good CO and AG... plus some +2 Category ranks.

I've played the numbers, for many years with RMSS, purchasing one Cat rank (even if expensive for that profession, with little apparent return) often saves a lot of pain, especially when it's a large skill category ;) (From a laziness point of view, it's often easier to invest in categories, then go on to purchase only 1 rank in the actual skill, that way you don't, as a player have to write them all down! You may not have huge skill bonuses, but it's often better than having loads of minuses..
