"My brother sent you, then," Dareth confirms, the smile faded from his face. His eyes narrow and whatever display he was putting on before is gone. "What's his connection to your little reckoning that you're running errands for him?"

"He has information we need. Your bust was his price," Mia states.

Their host nods, and he stares into the distance, mouth slightly open, as he considers his options. His girlfriend leans back and whispers something to him, inaudible to even Sorak's fine hearing, and Dareth nods again in assent.

"I'm tempted to make you go back and tell Gav that he can come beg for it himself," he says, a little edge to his voice. "But, since your 'fox' has caused considerable disruption of business in the Triangle, and, of course, you have indulged me with your fine story of betrayal and vengeance, I'll let you take it, with only one condition."

The agent raises an eyebrow. "And what condition would that be?" she asks, disapproval thick in her tone.

Dareth sits up and leans forward menacingly. "Tell that good for nothing bottom feeder that I've already withdrawn my cut from the accounts he sequestered away in that little compartment he didn't think I knew about," he spits. "You tell him that he's lucky I didn't suck them all dry and leave him to rot. You swear to tell him that or no deal."

Treyva smiled, more genuinely this time. "Oh, I couldn't possibly," he said. "I'd likely miss a word or turn of phrase, dilute your meaning, and that would be a travesty." Pointing toward his engineer, he continued, "Sorak, though, has an exceptional memory, and can recite your message word for word so that he doesn't miss anything."

He closed the bag and set it down on a cushion at Dareth's table. "As soon as your brother gives me what I need, you have my word that your message will be delivered verbatim."

Sorak nods, the ghost of a smile on his face. "Indeed. I would be delighted to deliver your message, sir."

When Dourap looks at him in response to the chosen turn of phrase, he finds Sorak's usual Vulcan stoicism once more firmly in place. A circumstance immediately punctuated by single arched eyebrow.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Dareth chuckles slightly. "Good," he adds, and chuckles some more, the self-satisfied joviality he exhibited earlier beginning to return to him.

"Thilaa, go fetch our guests' new decoration," he says as one of the cooks refills his cup. Raising it to the captain, he adds, "Have a seat, my friend, and let me regale you of a story of my own..."

As the slave woman slinks her way out the side door, he begins describing a smuggling run he and his brother made about a year before their split. During the run, the pair fell into one misadventure after another, including a double cross when they were procuring the goods, barely outrunning a local patrol ship, and their contact getting pinched just before their scheduled delivery.

He's explaining how the pair had to identify and locate their contact's buyer when Thilaa returns with the bust and carefully places it at the captain's table.  It's of a medium size, about 70-75cm high, and shows a few signs of wear, most notably on the crown of the emperor's head, where someone repeatedly patted or rubbed the sculpture, likely in a wish for good luck, giving the emperor the appearance of a small tonsure where the hair detail has been worn away.

As the slave woman cuddles up to her mistress, Dareth continues unhindered by the presence of the bust in the chamber, relaying how they stumble upon this spy, completely disrupt her mission without even realizing it, and end up completing her mission and their drop through an implausible series of circumstances. He then concludes that that was how he met the love of his life, Sehrie.

Sehrie smiles and grasps his hand in hers, planing a kiss on the palm.

“Sadly, my brother didn’t appreciate having a woman around who could actually plan our business better than either of us could,” he adds with a sigh. “But, I came out with the better end of the deal. Shaala.” Dareth raises his cup again in a salute to his good fortune.

Treyva nodded appreciatively during the Orion's story. As it came to an end and Dareth made his toast, Treyva raised his cup in return. "Shaala," he repeated.

That went better than anticipated.

Any Momentum generated up there should be banked, BTW.

Dareth invites the crew to remain for supper and rewards them with a delicious multicultural feast. Stories are told to much laughter, and the crew gains a little insight on their host’s work (mostly introducing folks who need certain products moved to those who can move them; he seems to be out of the smuggling business himself).

At one point in the evening, Mia seems to trade cards with Sehrie; the agent later explains that having a former Romulan Intelligence operative as a contact would be beneficial, and that she’ll have to try to recruit her as an asset at some point in the future.

The evening’s festivities conclude with happy, if slightly inebriated, farewells, and Ally manages to get the crew back to the ship safely, where they sleep off the reverie. The next morning, the rental agency picks up the van, and, soon after, the Christopher Robin lifts off and exits the system. Within a week, they find themselves landing on Korvat in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm; the old Class III is sturdy, however, and Miruku has little problems getting the ship on the ground safely.

Mia makes arrangements to deliver the “package” in an hour, and Gavreh-Taan eagerly agrees. Soon, the crew find themselves at his compound on the far side of the star city.

With Zorana carrying the bust in a satchel, the crew (minus Miruku, Nikolai, and Katarina) enter Gavreh-Taan’s inner chamber, their host’s three associates flanking him at the large round table.

“Do you have it?” he asks, that same self-satisfied smile on his face.

Mia nods. “We do,” she says. Turning to the yeoman, she orders, “Show him.”

Zorana carefully pulls the bust from the satchel and holds it up for Taan to see. Mia continues, “Your information first, and then we’ll hand it over to you.”

Taan’s smile fades and he regards the group for a few moments before shrugging. “Fine. I don’t know where Schrepfermann’s redoubt is, but I can tell you exactly who does, and where she is. From what I’ve heard, you’ve encountered her before, though you probably didn’t know it.

“Her name is Kainiss, and she’s the little suliban chameleon who used to work for the Klingons,” he offers. “She’s hiding in a small apartment complex on the southeast side by the river, called Pekrat Tower. Number 406. She doesn’t go out much anymore.”

Reaching out with one hand, Gavreh adds, “Now, the bust.”

Zorana looks to Treyva for confirmation.

Tobin frowns as Gavreh-Taan speaks. He'd felt great relief at how easily they'd obtained the bust from Dareth, in direct contradiction of his own misgivings, and he'd begun to hope the rest of their mission might go just as smoothly. I should've known it wouldn't be so straightforward, he thinks to himself, keeping an eye on Taan as Zorana looks to Treyva.

Treyva perked up at the mention of the Suliban.  "Oh, she's definitely on the list of people I wanted to meet on this trip," he said. "Thank you for that."

Turning to Zorana, he said, "Let him have it." Turning to Sorak, he said, "Let him have it."

Sorak moves to stand directly before the Orion and raises an eyebrow until he is sure he has the whole room's attention. He then nods at nothing in particular and begins to speak, "Dareth required one specific condition to surrender the artifact," he gestures to the statue. "And that was the verbatim delivery of a message. And I quote, 'Tell that good for nothing bottom feeder that I've already withdrawn my cut from the accounts he sequestered away in that little compartment he didn't think I knew about. You tell him that he's lucky I didn't suck them all dry and leave him to rot.' Unquote."

His task complete, the Vulcan steps back and rejoins his companions.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Treyva nodded to the Vulcan. "Bravo," he said. "You should be eligible for some sort of award."

Sorak inclined his head toward the captain in a partial now, "Thank you, sir. Most kind of you to say so."

Sorak’s recital leaves Gavreh stunned. Even as Zorana places the bust on the table before him, the Orion just stares blankly ahead, blinking. Only when Treyva congratulates his first officer on the delivery does Taan show any reaction.

His face turns a deeper shade of green and his eyes narrow. His jaw clenched, Gavreh growls, “Get. Out.”

In response, his three associates stand, menacingly exposing holstered disruptor pistols. The two guards at the door, seeing this, draw their own pistols, though they keep them at their sides.

Mia leans in to the captain, “It seems it’s time to go.”

The crew exit the way they came, with the security guards escorting them all the way to their van. The two Orions stand in place between the vehicle and the building until the crew is on the road.

From his seat, Garav asks, "So, are we going after this Kainiss right away, or do we take some time to prepare? In his state of mind, I wouldn't put it past Taan to warn her."

"Or Schepfermann, for that matter," Sorval offers.

Are we closer to the spaceport or the condos? I'd like to stop by the ship and get our little toy en route.
