Rotondo producers moves behind a partition set up along one side of the room.   You here him moving about but do not see what he is doing.  Eventually he returns with a simple cloth purse and a black velvet bag.  He opens the purse and spreads 15 silver metallic oblong coins on the table, allowing you to count them and then reload the purse.  When you are dome with that he opens the black velvet bag and produces a medium size clear stone, four medium sized red stones, 10 lustrous pearls,  and a smaller clear golden stone.  Again allowing you to inspect the stones and place them in the pouch.  "A pleasure doing business with you," says Rotondo, "I will escort you to the inn and Falthin."

Zariya looks at each, concealing the glee of his good luck in this one thing, and carefully hides both in the depths of his satchel, "A pleasure doing business with you as well. Do you perchance have a sign or symbol I can show others to show we have done business in good stead [a business card equivalent perhaps?]? I would like to be able to recommend you to others."

Zariya eagerly follows along, interested to hear what Falthin has to say as well, for this has been quite an interesting day so far.

Rotondo says, "I have no symbol, but feel free to recommend me by name."

He leads you to the oval building with the conical roof.  He opens the door and you enter an other worldly space.  The lighting is diffuse and the interior make you think you have entered an arboreal fantasy.  You appear to be suspended in the boughs of great trees.  as you look around you see Falthin approaching you.  "Thank you Rotondo, I will assume sponsorship now."

Flathin leads you along a wide branch to a cluster of leaves where you find a table.  He says something in Elvish to someone behind you, but before you can turn to see who he is talking to he begins to asks extensively about how Balimir and the village of Lyithyan were holding up.  He seems to understand what it means to live I the shadow of that fell beast and her young. During his questioning there is a pause as and The extremely beautiful waitress brings two glasses of a yellow green wine with tiny bubbles.  The wine is delicious neither too sweet nor to dry, and the bubbles add and interesting texture in your mouth.  He also asks about your experience with the dragons.  As you finish your wine, new glasses are  delivered by the same stunning waitressOnce his curiosity is sated to the best of your abilities, he asks, “So what are your plans?  Any idea about where you want to go?”

It takes Zariya a moment to realize Falthin had asked him a questions, "Plans .... I am not sure. It was one of the reasons I wanted to speak with you. I am not sure why my people were headed west (I will relate the few things I remember our Chief saying before the dragon attacked) ... I thought about heading to the others of my people, north of here, but I do not think they'll have a place for me.  I'd like to find somewhere where I can learn more of herbs, medicines and alchemical techniques. Where perhaps I can apply them in assistance of others. Basically continue my scholarly ways. Where do you think I might go?"

"I would suggest that we invite another resident, Tabatha, to dinner her passion is maps and  she can give you the best “view” of this side of the Terad Range and the Mountains of Death and Dreams."  His understanding of your people’s names for the mountains on either side of the desert you crossed to get to this continent surprises you a bit.  He signals the waitress over and has a quick discussion with her in Elven and then return his attention to you.  Your question leads to a discussion about the several City States.

Rulla is the City State of the Sea Kings, who fashion themselves the dominant sea power of this continent.   Although, the Skandiks, Tarantis and others may claim it is not so.
Tarnatis is the closest City State just down the coast to the south, with the entire area south of the cliffs claimed by them.  Borrsipa, back up the river, is the Provincial Capital, but you get the sense that Aritar, the head of Tarantian City State does little to protect this village from raids by the Invincible Overlord.
The Invincible Overlord has a City State at the head of the Rangoon Estuary, so attacking ships must travel the estuary to reach the City, but the overlord has a sea monster within the estuary that wreaks havoc on would be assailants.
Valon is another City State located well up the coast from here.   It is said that all the Avalonians have some magic skill, even the lowest.  They live at the base of a great glacier.  Their wizards claim to be the best of anyone; although Tulla the City of Wizards  would dispute this. The Tullian’s claim the best wizards in all the world—their colleges train an untold number of wizards to extreme levels of power, and welcome any race or creature that has power to cast spells.

The World Emperor is in Verdistan to the west of the Invincible Overlord.  Falthin believes that Verdistan is in decline, and that the Green Emperor—so named for the color of his skin, a True Veridian—and his queen, along with less than a dozen others are the last True Veridians left.  He is thoroughly evil and it is believed that he consorts with demons, but he does provide a force sufficient to keep the Demon lords to the far south from too many incursions into these lands.

Forgot to mention that when you went to the jeweler's house your nose detected the faint odor of horses and you heard a few whinnies and snickers coming from the long rectangular building next door.

Backtracking a moment, Zariya would have asked Rotundo about the establishment and whether he would be able to get permission to stable his horse there for the week.

Continuing, Zariya carefully considers all that was said and pauses for a few moments, filling the time by eating, and then replies, "I believe I am seeking three things: Knowledge, Opportunity and Security. On the first, which of these cities or places has the best sources - scholars, libraries, collections - for a scholar such as myself? I'd like to be able to learn more of the world, especially the medicinals common to all areas?"

Rotondo tells you that the building behind his is the stable.  He suggests that you talk to Falthin about gaining access, as he knows about such things.

Faltin looks up and says, "Ah, Tabatha is here!"  He stands and waves over an Elf with Platinum hair and sparkling green eyes, who is carrying several rolled parchments.  She comes to the table and sets her maps on the fourth chair.  Flathin says, "Tabatha allow me to introduce Zariya last of the Savindy.  His tribe was in the Infinite Desert when attacked by the Beast of the Crown Lake and her hell spawned progeny.  Zariya was the sole survivor, he managed to stumble out of the desert and came upon Lithyan,  Balamir suggested that he contact me regarding when he may wish to restart his life.  I have reviewed the major City States with him but thought that it help to have some maps to assist in visualizing this part of the world."

Tabatha smiles and says, "A pleasure to meet you." and nods to you.  She them produces a map and spreads it on the table.  "This will give you an idea of the overall lay of the lands around the Wine Dark Sea."

"We are on the coast in Sector 4.  The Invincible Overlord is located in the center of Sector 1.  Valon is located on the coast above the area shown as Sector 5.  Virdestan, the City of the World Emperor is located on the left coast of the Trident Gulf in Sector 6.  Rulla is located at he toe of the boot of the Isle of the Blest, Sector 12.  Tula is located on the coast on the far right side of Sector 11." Tabatha informs you.

Zariya looks, "And is this but part of our world? So large and we're so small ... I've riding perhaps the length of my thumb on this scale. Thank you for showing it to me. Can you, Tabatha, tell me of the cities themselves? Scholars, libraries and halls of knowledge?"

"Well, it may depend upon what type of knowledge you seek.  The magical college at Tulla probably has the greatest libraries and scholars for magic, at least the new 3 realm magic.  Although, for singular scholars of magic Valon may offer a more accessible selection.  For the straight up largest library I would say The City State of the Invisible Overlord.  The sages guild there has been in existence since the founding of the City if not even before.  It was built upon the same site as several prior cities.

"Rulla and Tarantis probably hold the best collections of sea charts, but the real knowledge is locked within the skulls of their sea captains.  While I doubt you could ever access it, the World Emperor likely has the largest collection of ancient texts, but I'd wager that they are all written in Verdistanian.

"There are over 50 other smaller cities and large towns, all of which have some knowledge to offer, but in far less quantity and quality.

"Tell me what is it you wish to learn and I can better help guide you.

Zariya smiles, nods and continues to make notes, "My interests are alchemical in nature. I've discovered I have a knack for finding medicinal plants and a bit of a knack for preparing them as well. I've learned a little of herbs, poisons and medicines, but would like to learn more. I want to know how to best create and deliver potions, salves and balms. Would the City State be the best place to start and if so, how would I get there from this side of the sea?"

Falthin says, "Tabatha seems to have addressed you question on where to find knowledge.  As to opportunity, I doubt that you will do better than the Invincible Overlord's City.  Adventurers from the world over travel there to unload their loot and to reequip.  Over the years the artisans of that City State have evolved in to specialists in creative design and custom work.  The influx of many races, religions, customs and traditions has created a very diverse society.  These would lead to the mingling of many traditions when it comes to healing, was well as other things.  The adventurers would likely create a supply of raw materials, or could be hired to collect specific ingredients.  Also that is one of the most populated cities in the world--providing a strong potential client base."  The last he says with a smile.

Zariya nods, "Falthin and Tabatha, thank you for your time and all of this information. I have much to think on but it appears my course is clear. How would I reach the City State from here? Are there vessels leaving this port or should I travel north or south along the coast to a larger port?"

Falthin This for a moment before responding, "The only real Port is Tarantis, to the south.  But piracy is rampant around Tarantis, unless your ship has purchased protection from the Brotherhood.  Most of the local merchants here have smaller vessels, which are not suitable for such a trip.  But let me ask around, maybe someone has a ship coming in that could take you there.  If not, I’m sure you could arrange passage with one of them or even a local fisherman to Dark Odyssey.

Dark Odyssey is a fishing community.  The hobbits are allied with the dwarves on the island, who can produce manufactured goods.  This combined with a sheltered cove, make this a favored spot for visiting large ships, looking to resupply.  You could wait there for a ship headed in the direction you are looking to travel.  You will need cash, as the captain will likely want payment for a passenger, and given your background I doubt that you could pass muster as a sailor.

Zariya thinks and tries to sum up his choices, "So my first choice is to find passage from here to Tarantis in the south [Sector 4 or 13?]. Then in Tarantis, find a merchanter or sea captain, with protection, who would take me to the City State."

"My other choice is to find a fisherman who can take me west to the island/village Dark Odyssey. There I look for a vessel, stopping at Odyssey and willing to pick me up, headed further west to the City State?"

"If either of you were considering this trip, which would you do? Let us assume I can afford either passage."

"Do what you know, yet know what you do."

Tabatha says, "I am not a fan of Aritar or his City so I would consider Dark Odyssey as my option."

Falthin says, "I too would chose Dark Odyssey, for much the same reasons, plus there you will find a captain at the mercy of what the hobbits wish to extort for food, freshwater, sails, rope, etc.  After that he will be more inclined to accept a passenger whose fare will help defer those costs.  But I would not be too rash in pursuing that course.   Please give me a few days to ask around.  There are may merchants here who receive shipments from all over the Wine Dark Sea.  If someone has a ship arriving soon you might as well ask if you can hitch a ride even if not directly to the City State of the Invincible Overlord, possibly to another port.  A few days more to find the simpler path is usually a better course of action-especially when there is not time constraint on your travel."
